Just curious if anyone heard any rumors?
...
I doubt it. Verizon it touting internally what a benefit their unlimited data is over AT&T's new plans and giving ways to sell it to customers. I don't think it's going anywhere.
...
And seriously, why would they? AT&T have really given the other 3 carriers a Great selling point.
...
Uh-huh. I remember when Verizon rolled out Nine o clock Nights and Weekends. I was working at Alltel at the time, but I had former co-workers at ATTWS and Cingular. We all bashed Verizon and touted our superior off peak hours....until our companies meekly fell in line. If AT&T is able to get away with this (and they will) I won't be surprised to see VZW follow.
...
I'm a CSR for Verizon and I have seen a lot of recent internal information that is pushing us to use our unlimited as a selling point when customers start to churn. I would have to agree that I don't think the unlimited is going anywhere. I would think once LTE starts to roll out widespread we would see a change in data plan options. I still think unlimited will be there but people who don't actually need the unlimited may have an in between option other than the 25MB. Just my two cents.
...
When I worked at VZW, at one time we had $0 activation fees with 2 year contracts. We used it as a selling tool against Cingular for quite a while...until th big whigs rolled out $35 Act Fees wit one AND two year contracts. It seems some pencil pusher crunched the numbers and determined that every sub we activated with a $0 ACT FEE was $35 in loss revenue. I remember specifically thinking: "Idiot, we would not have sold as many lines if we had been charging $35 ACT fees."
So yeah, as long as you have an unlimited data option...sell the heck out of it, but do not think that just because you have it today it will always be there.

I've been hearing this since day one at Verizon, about seven years ago.
Today's selling point will be tomorrow's old way of doing things. I can't guarantee anyone that unlimited data will stay, in fact, I can guarantee the opposite: change will come. Just because Verizon is touting unlimited data in June of 2010 does not mean we'll be selling unlimited data in June of 2011. If this company's history has taught us one lesson, it's this: sell what you have today, because EVERYTHING will be different tomorrow.
Do I think unlimited data will go away? In my opinion, I would give all of you a resounding YES. YES, it WILL go away. Do I agree with it? Not necessarily. For me, I might save $5 a month, but other months I'd spend an extra...

The tier model was announced for LTE, but... the timing on that is May 2011. So I'm not sure if that falls within your "anytime soon".
...

You mean the tier model was insinuated. I'm not aware of an actual announcement, pricing included, or we'd be talking about THAT instead.
The CEO mouthing off does not constitute official announcements.
...
Trust me, if Lowell announces it then it's pretty much in stone. But yes, you're right... we don't know pricing yet.
I just don't see us getting 5 GB ("unlimited") for $29.99 anymore... hopefully I'm wrong.

Let me tell you something about Lowell. I was in a meeting with him once, years ago. Someone asked if we were ever going to have unlimited texting. He said "absolutely not" and proceeded to jump down the employees throat for five minutes. Two months later we had unlimited in network texting. So no, Lowell's remarks do not constitute an announcement. They're the ramblings of a well paid and very loyal Verizon executive.
...
I guess I only spoke based off of what I know he announced. I met the guy once, but he didn't really say anything and I didn't ask him anything.
...
"I didn't ask him anything."
Smart man. I met him once, also. Strigl was still running the show at the time. We spoke and shook hands and I got the heck out of Dodge as soon as politeness allowed.
...
Well, I just didn't wanna waste time if there was customers waiting to be helped... that was my commission out there.
...
from the same fevered forums that swore up and down Verizon was getting an iPhone this summer?
Good luck on that...

From Boy Genius Report by Kelly Hodgkins
http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2010/06/18/verizon-wi ... »Verizon Wireless brass continue to drop hints that the advent of the carrier’s 4G LTE network will foster a change to the structure of its data plans. Speaking with Bloomberg, Verizon Wireless CFO, John Killian stated that, “We [Verizon Wireless] will probably need to change the design of our pricing where it will not be totally unlimited, flat rateâ€Â. Killian’s comment suggests that Big Red will adopt AT&T-like pricing, with tiered plans, for the customer’s convenience; the unlimited data plan will be removed from the pricing model. Anyone’s enthusi...

No big deal and those who think they have unlimited now can keep it forever have their head in the sand. It's no big deal for me I used the **** out of my DROID last cycle and used just over 1 GB. If my needs change I'll go to Sprint and just keep rolling with the punches from there.

That's strange that you say you used the **** out of your Droid and used only 1gig, I use the **** out of mine, and have used over 6.5gigs!!! I listen to a lot of podcasts on an app called Stitcher, and watch news clips on an app called Newsy, it ALL adds up!!! It really does.
I wonder what data plans will look like late next year.
...
Well I guess one mans used the **** out of it, is another mans hardly used any. I use my phone all the time but between work, family, recreation that's how much I used seems like a lot to me.

They're just talking about 4g though right? everything I've read seems to be giving that indication.
I really don't care about tiered pricing, as long as the company isn't boneheaded about it like att is right now.
Seriously... an extra $20 for tether, and microcell data counting against allowance?
