Google cancels Nexus One for Verizon
They suggest buying the Incredible instead.
Almost sounds like some corporate arm twisting was involved. That or the device wasn't panning out as well as they'd hoped and figured they'd sell Incredibles over Nexus 10 to 1.
If they had released the N1 last month, it might've done well. But now that you can get an incredible, and get it on contract (so everyone can use their NE2) I don't see it selling well at all.
But I think google just decided it wasn't worth the hassle of getting it approved since verizon already has 2 flagship android devices anyway. Remember, google didn't make the n1 to dominate in sales, but to present a different selling method, and to pique interest for android, something the Droid and Droid incredible for verizon are already doing.
That and I think they're hoping the backlash on tech sites from this news (hoping there is backlash) will make the n2's approval easier when they decide to release it.
What saddens me rally is that it ALMOST looked like, finally, an off-carrier smartphone for Verizon might make its way into the wild and start dragging "full retail" costs down out of the stratosphere to where they belong. The Saygus vPhone hasn't shown up yet, either, so here we are stuck with no alternatives to carrier-branded equipment still.

The reason why Google has shelved the Nexus One on Verizon is likely because of timing and money.
They should have come out with it a month or more ago, but they waited for whatever reason. Now, Verizon is releasing a phone that, for all intentions, is a better model.
Nexus was intended for new lines, not existing, and so they created a niche product before it was ever produced. A majority of people would eventual figure out what the Nexus One was and how to get it, and end up going back to Verizon for an Incredible because they could get...
