Will VZ let you activate a prepaid phone on a postpaid account?

Hello- Since my phone is dying before Verizon will let me buy a new one at the discounted price, I bought an Accolade VX-5600 on EBay, but got the prepaid instead of the postpaid version. Does anyone know if the prepaid version can be activated and used on a postpaid account? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

It has been awhile, but I think it has to be active on the pre-pay number for atleast 6 months before it can be used on a postpay line.

I would call VZW and see if they will do it for you. Cant hurt to try. 🙂

Thanks for the suggestion. I called VZ and they let me hook up the prepaid phone on the postpaid account. The phone was new in the box, but they didn't require any prepaid activation. They were actually very helpful.

Supposedly pre-paid eq has to have been active for six months before the system will allow it, but I have seen it happen in far less time. Since you already have the phone just try it from My Verizon.

Archer and Azeron are correct about the six month lockout of using a prepay line's serial number on a post-pay account. The only time I've been able to get around this was when we used a standard boxed phone instead of one that comes in a blister package- the standard boxed phone uses a series of ESNs (serial numbers) that are not restricted to prepay only, where the blister pack ones are.

Still, the best way to know for sure is to try it. If the system will allow it to be activated, you'll have to do another ESN change on the prepay, or the network won't allow it to be programmed. If two numbers have the same ESN, the first phone that was activated has it locked. So you'll need to do two ESN changes, really.

I do the prepay phones in the blister packages all the time. They key is that it has never been activated on prepay before. Once they get activated on a prepay plan I've never had any luck putting them on postpaid. If they are brand new and never activated they work like a charm.

And I've seen the opposite, especially when phones come from an indirect retailer or big box retailer.

...two people said you had a 6-month lockout AFTER you posted that Verizon already activated the phone for you.

Way to pay attention, guys! 🙄

Most of those people posted before. hillary posted that they got the phone activated at 10:30pm

Epik and azeron posted yesterday around NOON, which is 10 hours before she posted about getting the phone activated.

Remember, phone scoop threads are not always linear. once there are two or more replies to the main thread, the conversation can fork in quite a few directions.

Oh, LOL, I was looking at the times and not the dates. Azeron posted a full day before Hillary reposted. I feel silly now.

🙄 - at myself.
