Email setup
I've not found support from either cox or verizon and i can't find the solution from google.
Then when you set up email on your droid, use the proper setup. Enter your email address and PW and then select "Manual setup"
and setup the incoming and outgoing server settings (Cox should have some page somewhere about their settings)
On second thought, here is something I found about setting it up for pop3 with outlook. the settings should be the same:

I hope this helps.
If not, you can always try and use your gmail account to foreward email's to your phone. There should be an option to do this in cox email settings (most webmail portals allow this)
From googling it, it seems like th...

That's why I said it was a cox issue. they have their stuff configured differently than most servers I've seen. That link with outlook has about hot to set up the stmp.
But really, your best bet is to forward stuff through your gmail account and consider migrating to a different service. ISP emails are a big hassle.
I finally gave up a little while ago and set an appointment to give round two a try monday.
I'll post the results here if i actually get it to work
Did you mention that the last time someone tried messing with Gmail servers, Google basically did the equivalent of flipped them the bird and pulled out of that country? (China)
I know it's annoying man.. one of the things I hated was setting up email like that for customers who didn't want to change.
"well blah, blah, blah told me that gmail was the worst for spam and security" 🙄
She was even ready to create a yahoo account to forward everything too.
I didn't want to go through the hassle of figuring out how to get an yahoo account to work on a devour.
yahoo to android is NOT fun.. you basically need to trick yahoo into thinking that you're from another country to get it to work without paying for premium.
2.1 fixes that
another question that i haven't heard answered.
will the devour and eris get 2.1 at the same time as motodroid?
Droid was supposed to be out already, but there were some issues with release, so they pulled it back. Going theory is they tried replacing the bootloader to make it harder to root, but this was causing phone to brick. I'm hoping they drop the bootloader change.
2.1 on the Eris will be out next (aka sometime this spring) not sure on blur2.1 as moto hasn't announced any products running it yet and HTC has with their sense.
The other thing that is important about 2.1 for the eris is i'll be able to downplay the awesomeness of the N1 when it comes to verizon if the eris already has it. Aside from a couple of hardware differences, the eris and the n1 should be about neck and neck (to the not tech savvy customer)
The Eris is nice.. but people wanting a "cool gadget" would be better served with other phones
the eris is tiny, light, cute and easy to use.
Am excited about the incredible too, though
I think my best bet will be to run her outgoing through her verizon email with the verizon smtp settings
I have found that Cox frequently requires "SMTP Authentication" and sending on port 587 instead of port 25.

Check with Cox for their requirements. You should be able to use the same settings you would use with a laptop email account.
