So Engadget now says this phone will only be sold through Google. My question is why would you by this instead of the Incredible? Technically, aren't they the same phone?

The Open Market will decide this one. No sense speculating about it.
Google will really have to get their Customer Service act together if they want to be in the hardware business, that's for sure.

Nexus One=Google Device. Stock UI, it's the development phone (most developers will have this phone to test apps on). It will also get updates the FASTEST since only Google has to approve them.
Incredible=SenseUI, HTC device. It's not a development phone, so while most things developed for the N1 will work on it, unlike the N1 if you are into Rooting your phone, it will take longer to root (unless some developers decide they want one). Also, since it is not a Nexus device, updates will have to go through Google, then HTC, and then (maybe) Verizon, depending on the agreement.
While that last part won't really be an issue since SenseUI makes a phone feel more "advanced" than a stock phone for several revisions, but if you're the type...

I agree, its basically the same phone. I like the HTC line up that is coming up this year. They problem I am having is that they are all looking the same. The Incredible, Nexus One and the Supersonic, all look the same. Hmmm are they getting lazy??

Nexus 1: Stock UI, Google phone
Supersonic/Incredible, basically the same phone for 2 different carriers
The N1 isn't an HTC phone, it is a Google phone.
Compare those to the Desire and Legend

Good Points. However, Google doesnt make the Nexus. HTC makes the phone and Google sells it 😉

yes, but it's not really a "HTC" phone since Google ordered it, so HTC would most likely view it as a competitor rather than one of their lineup

But who builds it, HTC, thats all my point was, HTC builds it. If I had the money google has I could have HTC build me a phone as well, it would still be built by them though. Good info though on the differences.

To Your point though, doesnt every carrier order their phones from the Manufacturer though?

Yes, but Google isn't a carrier.
What I mean is from a development perspective. HTC wants a lineup of phones. Yes, they made the N1, but this is sold through google as a "google device." so it's not really part of their marketing lineup.
On top of that HTC really pushes their SenseUI, which is the Main thing that seperates the N1 from the incredible

agreed. i think this is going to be a pretty sweet phone. my ne2 isn't until oct so there is still a lot water under the bridge to go but i could see me getting an htc device next (using a bb now, love the bbm). the wife wants to go from a s1 to a s2; played with it in the store also, much much better device imo.
