Will Verizon Absorb Sprint ETF For New Subscriber?

I know someone thinking about porting two lines (one of them a Blackberry) from Sprint to Verizon Wireless. Of course Sprint would want a large early termination fee.

Will Verizon absorb that cost (possibly free months or lower equipment price) to attract a new account?

I doubt any phone company would pay hundreds of dollars in ETFs to another company on top of the subsidized phone price; most cell phone companies take the first year of the service agreement just to make back the subsidy. Eating the ETFs as well might require an agreement above two years just to make back the money they spent acquiring such a customer.

Alltel does. Of course, I'm talking about the orphan Alltel that wasn't allowed to be part of Verizon. The one that the government spawned. The one with two million customers that is practically selling their souls hand over fist to attract new customers to make their investors look better on paper when the last remains of the company are shredded to bits between the ravenous carriers who get to eat off the carcass. They need to put some meat on their bones before the wolves consume them.

Sprint is also losing tons of customers a quarter. Business accounts are also able to get special deals, though typically you need more than 2 lines to get the really good ones.

Businesses have access to deals that normal users don't.

You signed the contract and willingly accepted a discount on your phone for two years of service. If you cancel before that two years are up, you are responsible for the ETF, and you alone!

I am tired of people thinking that they don't have to be responsible for their actions. Don't sign up for a contract if you can't take the ETF!

I would ask about this at your local verizon corporate store, but there may be another option.

There are sites on the internet that will let you sell you current phone with it's plan to someone else who will finish out the term of your current contract.

I am busy at work and can post mor info about this tonight when I get home, but you may want to do a google search about this in the meantime.

Let someone else use an account thats in my name?

My Personal opinion? No Thank You.

Might as well give a complete stranger your bank card + pin.

That and anything done illicitly with that phone is in your name.

What other reason would someone have for getting a phone in YOUR name? Either because they are irresposible and have bad credit... or they want to hide their tracks.

Bad idea written all over it.

Sorry if there was a misunderstanding here.

I believe that my understanding and your understanding of this process may not be in sync.

It works similar to the following.
Let's say you bought a Honda Accord on a 5 yr loan at 7.5%. After 3 yrs you need to sell the car and want to get a minivan due to your increasing size of your family. One option is to sell the car with the new owner agreeing to pick up the last 24 payments on your 5 yr loan. You do not make any money per say from the sale, but you no longer owe any more money to Honda Finance and can start with a new slat on the new Toyota Sienna minivan you've been looking at.

And the new owner's name is on the Honda Accord loan deed. If he/she defaults on any of the remaining...

the process is called an assumption of liablility. Basically it makes the new customer run a credit check and assume your identity on the line, while letting you off the hook.

I found one of the links I have seen where you can get someone to take over your current cell phone contract:

Doubtful. The company wouldn't. If you found a desperate store manager unafraid of losing his job maybe.
