Amazon is offering the Droid for $50. I'm pretty sure I want this phone for two of my family share plan lines but I have a question.

Amazon only lets me upgrade one line at a time. Does the $29.99 data plan I have to buy only cover that line or can I call up Verizon later to have that cover everything?

You have to pay the $29.99 data for EACH line that has a Droid.

You have to pay for data on each sprint line too..
(their base rate is just cheaper)

2 phones, simply everything data (with 1500 minutes) is 129.99. Each additional line is 19.99

With a two line deal, assuming a Hero for each one. You are looking at $500 in one time set up fees/phone costs ($300 after rebate) for a 2 year contract with sprint

Smartphones arn't cheap. They never have been. Data is still expensive, and it will remain so until they find a cheaper way of getting it to people.

Sprint with their cheap prices is still loosing 500k-1million post paid customers a QUARTER. Sometimes price isn't everything.

The iphone may be at the root of a lot of those port outs.

I'm sure that's part of the numbers, but I don't think that all (or even a majority) of the users would be porting out for one device.. if that were the case, you would see similar trends at other carriers

It's not AS bad, but it happened to T-mobile last quarter, too.

People are leaving to get the Droid or the iPhone. The exclusivity deals are working (to the detriment of the industry at large).

That is a little odd that they can sell it for 49.99 for an upgrade, normally those kind of prices are only for new customers (due to the retarded pay out structure)

just know if you cancel service Amazon will bill you $250 a line in the first 181 days! that is on top of Verizon's ETF

That is how they get away with being cheaper...don't want to scare you off but if you cancel those two droids within 6 months you will have $500 amazon cancellation fee.

Here is their policy:

When you purchase your device with service from AmazonWireless.com, we automatically pass along an instant discount from the carrier to you. This discount has been provided to you based on your agreement to (a) activate a new, or extend an existing, line of service for this device with the carrier, and (b) maintain this service in good standing for a minimum of 181 consecutive days. If you do not activate or extend a line o...

Reading their policy a bad idea popped in my head. I wounder if someone could get a droid on amazon even if not eligible for an upgrade. Pay $50 for it then just pay the $250 in 6 months when they send a bill....thus getting a droid without contract for $300.... 😈 I bet someone somewhere has tried this

Upgrade eligibility or not, they would extend your contract and pop the Verizon $340 ETF on you. No retailer would do $50 without extending/altering your contract in some way, and I doubt they'd do it if you weren't eligible (because they wouldn't get paid a cent for it). It would be a $520 (phone) plus $200+ (commission - how they make money) or more loss the moment you pay for the phone.

if you cancel your service within the 30 days by calling Verizon you have no $340 etf. Unfortunately it is not Verizon's problem if you don't return Amazon's, or any other agent /retailer their phone. that is why many agents charge their own separate cancellation fees. People pull this crap all the time. Coming from the indirect channel I have scene it first hand. Walmart used to be a big one... I heard stories of people doing 5 line deals on BB's, going home calling Verizon to cancel and slapping them on eBay.

It is crap....but in Verizon's eyes not their problem...and as an agent good luck getting them to pay the separate cancellation and good luck getting equipment back. 😳 scammers suck

I have never and would never...but I guaran...
