So why when I goto this site it says the 7 day trial isn't supported by my device (VZW Storm 2)? 😕

And there's also something saying this isn't supported by VZW blackberries.
What gives, has anyone bought this and have it work on their VZW BB?

There are two types of GPS in most Verizon smartphones.

(1) Standalone GPS: uses ONLY the satellites in the sky to provide location and direction information. Relatively slow to recognize and pinpoint location, almost useless when traveling through long tunnels, large buildings, or underground, but accessible while at sea or on mountain tops where cell coverage does not exist.

(2) Assisted-GPS: uses the satellite constellation AND ping data from cellular sites to locate your position and direction data. Far more accurate then standalone GPS, but only works in areas where fixed cell sites exist. No coverage offshore or on mountain tops.

Programs like Google Maps utilize standalone GPS data, Programs like VZNavigator use the assis...

That's right if carriers (VZW) were not allowed to block the GPS information transmitted from their web sites they would then allow consumers to make a choice on how they got their directions on their phones. We all know that consumers should not be allowed any choices while on the VZW network. This is one more example of how carriers restrict consumers and force them to use VZW pay services but don't tell that to an agent when you complain about wanting a free phone because the poor carriers don't make any money when they subsidies your phone.

I meant to say block GPS from their cell sites, not web sites. I was distracted when proofreading.

If you want to use the free Dept of Defense GPS network, go ahead. It was built with your tax dollars and mine.

If you want access to a ridiculously expensive, privately held asset that a corporation was mandated to build, without tax dollars, expect to pay for it, one way or another.

This situation is no different then a copyright on a book, a patent on an invention or a cross-licensing agreement. Nearly every carrier has built out an Assisted-GPS system at the peril of Federal Mandate, and with the exception of e911 tracing, has 100% latitude over how those assets are shared with partnership companies and application (consumer privacy laws excepted.)

Some choose to be free and open as a marketing move to pull in hi-tech e...

for $100-$150 depending on BB I would rather buy a standalone, get a Droid with FREE Google NAv, or heck I will just keep paying the $10 for VZnav...it works great, never let me down, updates are constantly coming available and the service is carrier backed so getting help when I need it is easy. I have tried a bunch of different GPS nav programs on my BB and none of them have stacked up to VZnav in terms of speed and ease of use

I don't have a problem with VZnav but I do have a problem paying $10/month for it.
And I'm wondering why that's the only option on my BB Storm 2? When I've seen a daily use fee of $3 on other phones. 😕

I agree. VZNav is great and I can't get the per use option on my blackberry. I don't use it enough to justify the $10.00/mo fee. This is one of those "nickel-and-diming" things that so many anti-Verizon people complain about and justifiably so.
