New ETF Quesiton
weedoNov 4, 2009, 2:23 PM
Alright, so i know someone on another post asked this same question but nobody really gave him a clear answer. So with the new etf program on "advance devices" if I get a Droid keep it for 2 months and dont like it anymore and went to a env touch or something will i stay have to pay $350? If thats the case should i just hurry up and get it b4 the 15th?
...
The new ETF only applies to you start a contract after the 15th, so yes you might want to get/activate the phone before 15th to remain on the 2 year, $175 -5mo contract terms
the etf only applies if you cancel service, so if you changed phones at any point the etf does not apply.
hope this helps
...
You say that the ETF only applies if you "cancel service." Is dropping the data plan deemed to constitute cancellation of service, or does it require that you also have to drop the voice plan to be a cancellation of service?

dropping data plan does not mean your service is cancelled
The ONLY time an etf is charged is if you cancel the phoneline (or port it out) before the 2 years is up.
If you buy a droid, sell it online, and then go back to your old basic LG, there will be no penalty (unless you buy from an indirect location that charges for dropped charges)

Thanks, finally a clear answer. That, I'm told, is how it works now.

it helps, thanks guy!
...
you cant drop the data plan anyway.....all advanced devices are required to carry the data plan. Including the new droid phones.
...
No, but one could switch the MEID over to that Samsung A870 one has lying in the drawer. Poof! No data plan. ETF still would not apply unless the line were canceled.
...
u can exchange the device- but u cannot cancel the line without paying the etf.
