Saw some rumors online about att's wave plans ....

Win
Against
Verizon
Everytime

I guess its some kind of plan where they match verizon's pricing then add additional discount to beat monthly access charge. Anybody got any info?

Okay not to sound like a dick (Guess I sound like one when saying that eh?) but why in the hell do people from ATT constantly come to the Verizon forums and ask questions or tell us about whatever the carrier is doing. Frankly I dont care about the iphone or whatever ATT is doing, I dont like touch screen phones. Go back to ATT forums and ask your questions

You are being a di** a little bit but that's ok all of us have right to it. I'm a vzw customer been with them for 7 years or so. I have no interest in att forum that's why I'm posting here just wondering if any of the verizon employees have any idea what is this.

When a company tries to compete on price against a company that doesn't, they might want to think of another strategy.

Price is important, but with Verizon slamming ATT's coverage, att coming out and saying "Hey! Look at us again! Our coverage may be less than verizons, but we're 5% cheaper!" might not be the best marketing strategy.

At 50% cheaper, AT&T would still SUCK. Who gives a flying crap if their phone is a pretty little gimmick if can't make a decent PHONE call.

I left AT&T because of APPALLING service.

I'll take phones that make PHONE calls and an awesome network any day vs. gimmicks that drops calls!

It's my opinion that your decision should be price AND network based. For my needs (and I only speak for myself) the top 2 providers aren't even in the running. In my area Sprint works extremely well and customer service has improved. I also use Metro for my business lines. While I can't recommend Metro for data service or for people who frequently travel to uncovered areas, the competition is nice. The network is also very good in FL. I never get dropped calls.

I'd like to see Verizon and AT&T both bring rates down. Hopefully T-Mobile's new plans will bring prices in line for everyone. We'll see...

I can't imagine seeing a rate plan price drop, ever. Maybe a promotional plan will come out, but even if they wanted to they wouldn't.

Dropping price would show weakness, something Sprint did but something neither of the big two would consider. IMO at least.

They will drop. Now that Verizon is in bed with Google, They are basically looking at a $90 Smartphone Unlimited Voice and Data plan rather they admit it or not. They may as well drop the might as well bring the $60 Unlimited Voice option to regular handsets.

Yeah. I have been having a problem on the next phone to buy. I wanted to the BB Tour but alas my fingers don't fit comfortablely on the keys. I once thought LG made the best phones for Verizon. When the Chocolate dropped I thought it was an aberration. However, the Voyager took the cake, one of those phones that when the account came up I would cringe in anticipation. My girlfriend has the Envy Touch and so far so good though. If you have the VCast Vpak or a Connect or Premium plan I would say give it a try. If you want to step up to a PDA and pay the $29.99 for the Unlimited Data plan...I don't know. I'm not upgrading until I can get an Iphone. I know that could be years from now, but I have the Curve with extended warranty. I am patient.

The EnVTouch is a huge improvement over the voyager.

But as far as smartphones, the storm2 shows promise (I have the tour atm, and I really like it) You might want to mess with the tour keypad a bit more.. I have really big fingers and I find the tour a lot easier to type on than even my EnV2

I'm not a fan of pure touch screen phones though, so I am really hoping that the Droid is a homerun.. as long as the hardware is decent (build quality) that phone might be your best bet.

Android is a multimedia smartphone platform, while blackberry and windows are still more business focused.

I have a question, can someone tell me where this AT&T black hole is? I ave VZW and have had it since there was a VZW, my first cell phone was GTE an LG brick that was built like a tank and I wish I still had it. My wife has VZW for home and AT&T for work and pretty much all of my friends have AT&T. With the few exceptions of a particular phone that had generally bad reception I have never heard anyone with an AT&T phone explicitly complain about not being able to make calls. I live in the Dallas Metroplex but have friends and coworkers all across the country. I'm not talking about 3G or web surfing just making phone calls. Most of the people I know use phones for e mail but very few actually use the web browser.

Well, I have friends in Fort Worth, and when they visit us in Orange County, California, they get dropped calls CONSTANTLY. The mom was calling her daughter in FW, and in a 3/4 mile drive here, dropped the call SIX TIMES. She finally gave up.

Most of the AT&T people I know don't even realize that dropped calls are NOT NORMAL for cell phones. This same woman hates me because I aways laugh at her lousy service, and she says that, "We don't ANY problems at home!" Yet, the truly funny thing the last time she was out here, was when she told me that she has "no problems" at home, yet I could hear her telling her daughter on AT&T that she has to "...get closer to the front door or go outside." My wife gave me "that look" so I knew not to say any...

thanks for answering, I guess I don't get out to the boonies much. I do go to Louisiana fairly often and the I-49 North south corridor (this was before the Altel aquisition) had no VZW signal at all but my wifes work phone was fine. I was just confused by all the people talking about the horrible AT&T network, I guess I'm just lucky to live in the Metroplex which has a ton of cell coverage.

One of my favorites was dinner at our friend's house across the street. There were SEVEN people with various phones on AT&T, one with Sprint, and two on VZW. We got on the subject of cell phones, and I quietly called each of the seven AT&T users. NOT ONE of their phones rang. I then called the Sprint user (my wife) and the other VZW user. Their phones worked fine. All seven people on AT&T switched to VZW a week or so later, and all of their phones now work in the exact same areas.

My father-in-law and two other live in mobile homes and could not make calls on AT&T, having to step outside to get a signal. All three switched to VZW, and have no more problems.

I run my business off of my cell phone and cannot afford the dropped AT&T calls...

I'm talking public perception, not figures.

If verizon is going on their network coverage, ATT coming out and saying "we'll we're dropping our prices!" might not be the best move. You don't want to compete on price unless your brand image is the same as your competitor. If people have it in their mind that ATT is less of a brand than verizon, att saying they are cheaper will only re-enforce that image.

This is why I don't think ATT will use the plan. remember in sales, perception is often greater than reality. And if they added 2 million subscribers last quarter, I doubt they'll be dropping their prices.

This is the most ridiculous thing I've heard in PS. (I'm sorry Menno, but you've posted better things than this) So, if AT&T (or any carrier for that matter) wanted to come across as "better/stronger" all they would have to do is raise their prices... If this was true who knows how much we'd be paying for cell phone service.

That's not what I am saying at all.

what I am saying is that responding to ads pointing out network issues by reducing prices can harm brand image. (And releasing new pricing ads shortly after "there's an app for that" ads will be perceived by many to be linked)

Verizon doesn't market on price. They market on reliability, coverage, and the "perks" of a verizon plan (in calling). So making up a marketing plan like this WAVE plan (competing directly against verizon by price) doesn't make sense.

Price has something to do with perceived value, but it isn't the end all.

The ONLY time you really want to push on price is if your perceived value is the same as your competitor. I'm NOT saying ATT doesnt have this, I'm just saying tha...

Actually, a few years ago AT&T aligned its pricing to match Verizon. This followed Stan Sigman's admission that he admired VZW's metrics. It seems that AT&T ensures that its plans match VZW but the add rollover. That seems to be working for them. Why would they change their strategy? To regain the largest carrier mantle? It's possible. I know when Cingular purchased AT&T Wireless surpassing VZW there always seemed a defensiveness. Suddenly we were the Best not the Biggest. Whatever...

The way I look at it, if AT&T ends up with 25% more people on their network, but they can only make calls 50% of the time without them dropping, then VZW still wins!

What does Verizon put in their cell towers? Do they emit subliminal messages about how great Verizon is and how horrible everyone else is? 👀

I've used all of them and I didn't find Verizon any better than anyone else. In fact, Verizon is the only carrier that regularly drops call by the airport of all places. I don't knock Verizon or any other carrier...to me it's a matter of who's going to give me the best phone with the best service plan.

I agree with most of what your saying. When I had Cingular (Yeah going way back) I couldnt get service with the cellphone(s) that I had in Boston where I live or in the White Mountains, in fact at one point when I was going to NY we stopped in CT I had to use my friends Verizon Wireless phone to call Cingular/ATT customer service and they had to walk me thru unlocking my phone so I could roam?? Since I've had Verizon no issues except in the subway tunnels where no one gets service. That's all I am suggesting is that Verizon shut these people up and bring the Iphone home where it belongs. I cannot begin to tell you how many calls I have taken complaining because VZW blackberries did not have Wi-Fi. Now, of course I don't believe VZW phones need Wi-Fi but it just seemed a silly thing to leave out of phones when you know the competition has it and will hammer at you. Just add the Wi-Fi already! FINALLY all berries will have Wi-Fi going forward. About freaking time! Was that so difficult? Same with this Iphone. When a customer asks for one, we have to suggest other devices (because we don't have an iphone). Here is an idea...GET ONE ALREADY! I know there are many things that the iphone is lacking. it wasn't the app store/music store as much as it was:

-inability to insure the phone
-not allowing verizon techs to do in-depth troubleshooting in store
-requiring a bigger cut of residual sales income
-wanting total control over where the phone was sold.

Basically apple wanted to sell the phone that just "happened" to run off verizon. While this might be good for the consumer, it can be hell with Customer service.

App store and music store most likely were minor points if they were points at all. Heck, on my EnV2, I could access ringtones from sony (not vztones deluxe) if I wanted to

Storm2 looks like it will be a nice device. I am a fan of Blackberry OS (have the tour now) and so if you love the way blackberries do things, get the storm2 and you'll most likely like it.

I don't like pure touch screens, which is why I got the tour over the storm, but I actually like Surepress more than I like most other touch screens for texting.

I'll most likely get the Droid when it comes out (as long as moto doesn't *&%^ it up) but both phones should be good, it all comes down to what you prefer.

Nothing subliminal needed. Dropping half of my calls was my REAL experience with AT&T.

My wife would drop her calls to her friend at the same four spots EVERY DAY. AT&T's "support" people told her that she should not make calls in those areas, or drive home a different way. She switched to Sprint because her friend has it, and hasn't had ONE dropped call on that exact drive home.
