Why is it that we can receive multiple texts at once from any carrier, but when we try and send anything over 160 characters outside Verizon network it doesn't work. I know it has something to with the CDMA or whatnot networking, but it is frickin annoying!!! You would think that would be something that could be fixed easily seeing that any other carrier can send over 160 characters to Verizon. This REALLY annoys me!

whenever anyone from verizon sends me a text that's longer than 160 I only get the one message. the remaining text is never received. i feel you, it's annoying, but it could be worse. when I get a reply text from plp on Nextel I get part of the text I sent and their text! Now, that's annoying! 😡

You could compose as a pix message and it could be up to 1000 characters. You do not have to attach a picture.

It has nothing to do with CDMA or VZW's network. It's either the manufactor or VZW's choice of disabling multi SMS. SMS only allows 160 characters, but some manufactures allow a full SMS conversation which may break it into groups if the SMS exceeds more than 160 characters. Nextel doesn't support SMS, it's MMS at the time. There is some third party J2ME app that allow SMS on Nextel phones. I'm sure VZW may have or will have in the near future the multi SMS conversation exceeding 160 characters. Cheers.

It’s called EMS. Has nothing to do with VZW or the CDMA network. Here is a little more info…

I do this all the time. If you have to write a novel, send it via MMS, just don't bother with a pic.

I do this to my mother-in-law all the time (because she has an iPhone!)
