Hi All,

well my wife and I have blackberry storms and are looking to save some money...uncertainty in the economy...but anyway.......we don't really wanna change carriers, thought about it but #1 etf is way to high right now and #2 just dont really have a need to been with VZW for years.

we want a phone with functionality similar to our storms...touch screen a plus, need great battery life, web browser, facebook app would be a plus, aim, yahoo and push email or at least pop email.

do any phones that do not require the $30 data plan do all that? We thought about dares but haven't gotten much info from folks on them and all of the data makes our head spin...we are looking for used phones nothing incredibly pricey...

appreciate an...

Pop email...

No. Everything else, yes.

That is why you are paying for that package.

The LG Dare is a great non smartphone replacement. And the data plan for it is $15/month.

Nothing compares to a Balckberry. If you want to save moneyu look at your plan. See if you can go to a lower min plan to save some funds to keep the Berry.

You can also set up a POP account on a dare just that it is not as fast as a bb and i tried it and went back to the Berry.

The Env Touch or even the old Navigator is a good alternative. The Env Touch has a lot of nice apps and you can get the Mobile email for $5 a month if you want.

We've never had a phone named "Navigator." I assume you mean the Voyager?

Yes the Navigator is a GREAT choice! 🤣

You don't want to add just mobile email for $5 because you will get hit with all the MB charges. If your already on the select plan, it will only be an addition $10 per line to have unlimited data and also mobile email. This would be considered the "connect" plan. Or, if your on the basic plan, it will be 20 each for vcast (unlimited data) and mobile email.

IMO, I'd go with either the lg dare or lg env touch. Both will be very expensive full retail, so I'd definitely look into buying them used. Maybe you can sell your storms too.

You need to think this over a bit.

You are going to save $10 per line per month but how much will the new equipment cost? If you are LUCKY and you find a used dare for $100 you will only save money after 10 months. If money is tight now isn't $10 a month instead of $100 (or probably much, much more) up front not really worth the savings?

If you are happy with what you have you really aren't realizing any savings with these options.

What's worth looking into:

Touch screen: Voyager, enV Touch, Versa - don't bother with any others as most will have heat-sensitive touch screens which tend to be more troublesome.

Great battery life: aside from a few basic flips, the best you're going to find are enV2 or enV3, rated at the high end. Otherwise, you shouldn't find a whole lot of fluctuation. I get two days between charges on my Storm (with updated software), which isn't much different than when I had the Voyager or Versa.

Web browser: I'd shoot for enV Touch, if I could, but since you're looking for used phones you might be better off with Versa or Voyager.

Facebook: the only installable app is on PDA phones. Otherwise, you'll be going to their mobile site from ...

Keep in mind that if you are paying full retail you will have to sell your BlackBerry devices to lower your investment. You might not be saving enough money per month if you have to shell out for new phones at retail cost.
