PRE & the IPHONE yet verizon

Platypus

Jun 8, 2009, 4:10 PM
lets face it has nothing to compete against these two products...don't even think about throwing the POS strom in the mix because everyone knows it's junk and can't compare to the PRE or iphone. onnce again verizon customers are left with CRAP phones that do not compete.

well they are two very appealing phones, but i wouldn't go as far and say verizon has crap phones. i really like my Curve and Boulder..but yeah it would be nice if verizon got a wow phone, the storm was disappointing.

Most people care about the network and not the latest and greatest gadget, the numbers don't lie. Even without the iphone, VZW still outgrew AT&T last quarter in net subscribers (especially if you throw out prepay as VZW dominates in post pay- the high value customers) Don't get me wrong, the iphone is a very cool device, its just on a bad network (the #1 complaint of iphone users is the AT&T network)

VZW will have the iphone with LTE and AT&T will take a beating with port outs when that happens.

Give me your address and I will use TeleNav on my BlackBerry or Touch Pro to find it. My GPS will work FAST because I get 3G everywhere. Then I will bluetooth you pictures and ringtones, no just pictures. I can also download google maps on WiFi or on Verizon massive 3G network!

Please check your information before you blab away on something you don't know about.

Be careful what you wish for...Without ATT keeping prices competitive You are screwed.
The last thing you want is Verizon as the only Wireless company. Sometimes I don't understand you Verizon fan-boys. The best phone Verizon has is the flawed Storm. All the hoopla and it had an ugly release. Now you are banking on the iPhone which doesn't even have basic services and is a teeny bopper toy.

I don't think anyone is "banking" on the iphone, or the storm for that matter. Verizon does not push one phone and one phone only as a make it or break it deal. We're not sprint hoping the Pre will save us, or ATT having the iphone keeping our net adds positive (while destroying our data capabilities)

Verizon has a very strong lineup, they just don't have the "wow" factor phones that those who don't care about features and only want toys care about.

We have:
-BB Tour (soon): For Business professionals.
-BB Storm: For people who want internet connectivity and a touch screen on a blackberry (say what you want about the phone, but a lot of people love it, and it gets better with every OS release)
-LG Versa/EnVtouch/EnV3: These are ...

but verizon wants the iphone now they realized how many customers they have lost because of it, and how many they could gain if they get it..and they put out that press release acting like they will get a PRE like device..so they do know how important wow factor phones are to their bottom line.

They're not stupid. But they don't throw everything into one device.

Even if they launch the iphone/WebOS phone, LG will still make their EnV line (and it will still be promoted) and other companies will do the same.

They know that wow factor phones are important, but they know they're not "that" important. Which is why, even with out these "must have" phones, verizon still has the most net ads.

Hits are important, but increasingly having options is becoming more important. (The "Long Tail" of sales)

When Verizon gets the iphone/WebOS, it will be a part of their lineup, not some flagship that they promote and just shove all the other phones into the background. That's what I meant when I said that verizon depends on their lin...

The Pre comes to VZW in January 2010 according to the WSJ. But I played with it today at a sprint store. It is OK but again its nice but not a iphone killer. I may go with the new iphone 3GS and pay the damn ETF and then pay another ETF to come back to VZW if they ever get a phone as good as the iphone or the actual iphone.

How can you say that? The iphone cannot multi task, Doesn't have SAT GPS, video, interchangable battery, Smart dialing, syncing of Notes and TO-DOs,,search in the iPod music library, email features lacking: no bulk "mark as read", no option for turning Predictive typing OFF, no search, no sorting of any kind, no ZIP or RAR support in mail, can't send full resolution camera images via mail (they get resized to 800x600), no flashlite....No BT file transfers, Mo MSC ability to mov...

I don't care about syncing or removable battery or multitasking. I do like 50,000 apps, bigger screen and video recording and editing. I don't hate the pre, its kind of neat but it would have been better a year ago. It is not a breakthrough product. Also sprint has historically had the worst customer service so I would not switch to sprint for the pre either since it is coming to VZW in January. And I dislike AT&T but the iphone 3GS is just a better smartphone IMHO.

When is this LTE conversion supposed to take place?

My contract with my current provider runs out in January. The coverage in my area are about equal between Verizon and AT&T. Based on phone selection both me and my family are leaning towards AT&T, but an iPhone may sway us to Verizon.

I can't wait forever...

I happen to like the iPhone for all the capabilities it offers. I hate fads and fashions and most Apple products, but the tools the phone brings to bear plus the ease of use are a huge plus. Several acquantenances use them for work and I am constantly amazed by what they can do from a phone.

LTE starts rolling out this year. It will still be a few years until most of the US is covered (but verizon will have coverage faster than ATT).

The Verizon Iphone most likely won't be out until 2010/early 2011 when there are more markets for it. (if it is more than a rumor)

Verizon rolling out LTE the end of this year, ATT's exclusivity agreement ending around the same time. Verizon pushing the data speed capability of LTE along with countless press releases about verizon being in talks with apple.

I'm not saying this is factual (thus I said it could just be a rumor) but there are a lot of pieces there.

ha, too little too late? why wouldn't apple go to verizon? the iphone on verizon would be one of the best business decisions that apple could make. I work at an verizon indirect location, and at LEAST 50% of the customers i sell to ask at some point about the iphone and when verizon is getting it. cause they want them. now, none of these customers plan on leaving verizon because of the coverage in our area. the iphone is THE wow phone. EVERYone knows the name and the look. if/when verizon gets it, it will be big.

No, it will be out at the start of 10. The iPhone will use LTE for data and 1X for Voice. IT will use EVDO to fall back on when 4G is not around.

Am I the only one on here that would prefer a Blackberry over both of these devices. I am not talking Verizon vs. At&t, I am just speaking about manufactures.

BB Curve
or new curve 3g or Jupiter (or whatever they are calling it now)
BB Storm 2
BB Bold
BB Tour

New storm coming out...changed touch screen and that is main complaint, most lag issues have been fixed with software releases.

Hell...I think I would rather have the Omnia over the Palm or the Iphone.Go check out the Omnia 2 coming out, the widget feature on Windows phones is pretty nice.

Or the Samsung Galaxy
Or the HTC Pro/Diamond
Touch Pro 2 coming

Don't take it the wrong way, they are both cool devices but if I switched carriers tomorrow I would not purchas...

well, Verizon has officially announced it, so that's good. at least i know it will eventually come out, but there is no official date. a couple weeks ago i read somewhere that it was July 13th, but no one i talk to can verify that, so we'll see. it'll probably come out in September or sometime closer to then, cause that's normally how it works out. 😢 🤣
