Seems like May is a generally accepted timeframe.

Anyone else hear anything?

Considering there has been NOTHING from verizon yet, I would assume that we are looking at a June or July timeframe for release. Plus, both major leaks of the device (BGR and Crackberry) had extremely buggy test units. BGR even remarked that he thought the device was atleast 3-4 months away from being final just based on where the software is right now.

Dont hold your breath for May...

" BGR even remarked that he thought the device was atleast 3-4 months away...."

3-4 MONTHS ๐Ÿ˜ˆ ???????????? Okay, my heart is breaking now! I HATE waiting. I'm going nutzo here! The Niagara is the one single thing I'm looking forward to at this point in my life, I know ๐Ÿคญ pathetic huh?
Still have fingers crossed for May, but June won't "kill" me....but JULY???????????? Alright, I need a life. โ˜น๏ธ

I gauge releases by when I see a device go from the Quality Assurance department to the Data Team. QA gets all the weird, new, and test stuff before the Data Team. If it passes QA, it moves on to Data and sits in a hold pattern until final testing and product release.

Every time I see a handset end up with Data, I can expect a release within two months, though occasional devices - such as Pearl Flip - made it all the way to Data and got delayed an extra month while final tweaks are made.

I've seen the new Pearl. I haven't seen the Niagara. My friend in Data hasn't seen it either, which means it's likely still floating around with QA. June or July sounds like a good estimate based on track record (five years of track record).

๐Ÿ˜ข ๐Ÿ˜ˆ ๐Ÿ˜ก ๐Ÿ˜ข โ˜น๏ธ ,... well then do you have an opinion on which is the best Blackberry available now at Verizon??? I REALLY don't think I'll be able to wait any longer than end of June. The phone I have now is in fine shape, I just WANT a Blackberry & upgraded plan. If you have an opinion I would really appreciate the help. ๐Ÿ˜• ๐Ÿคจ

Yeah, but don't you think that one has run it's course, so to speak? I probably know less about this stuff than anyone on here but with this "buy one Blackberry get one free" promotion it seems like they're trying to clear out their inventory of older Blackberrys. I know you can upgrade software & such on these devices, but it seems like Blackberry is really making extreme improvements in their products (or so that's what I hear). Is the Storm really not as good as the Curve? MAN, I just wish the DAMN Niagara would come OUT already. ๐Ÿ‘ฟ

One would think the BOGO on Blackberry is to clear out inventory, but I partially disagree.

For the Pearl, which has been "buy one (or anything else) and get up to three free" for a while now, partnered with a new Pearl on it's way, assuming Verizon is trying to clear out old inventory is probably a safe assumption.

Otherwise, the bulk of what we've sold, by far, has been Storms. We're selling them almost exclusively in doubles. I've sold very few Curves during this promotion. My store has been moving Curves one at a time, but not in conjunction with anything else, for the most part. Hands down, we're selling Storms during this BOGO, and I know the stores in our region (multiple states) are seeing almost the exact same thing.

As...

Thank you very much ๐Ÿ™‚ . That helps me A LOT. As for me, if the Niagara is not out by the end of June, I will be getting the Curve. (Quite possibly sooner, I'm impatient).
I appreciate all the good advice and knowledge shared with me here. ๐Ÿ˜

Riley Freeman from Hofo (an extremely reliable vzdub insider) is saying July. Lets all hope he is wrong for once in his life.

Most other sites are saying May-ish

Let's not forget... it could be May for one channel, but later for others.

A lot of times the business channel does get the phones available to them about a month ahead. Online usually a week ahead of the stores. Etc.

They only really do that with phones that people dont care as much about. Trust me, if they release the 9630 for biz users 30 days early they will have a riot on their hands.

And I will be in front leading the charge, lol.

Most likely they will release it like the Storm where it was available on all channels at the same time. There is going to be too much hype for this device to start monkeying around with the release date

I hope you're right, I can't wait for this upgrade. I haven't upgraded my curve's software, so it's still lacking GPS w/ Other Apps. It still has issues with the phone locking up sometimes too.

And, by the time May comes the Facebook client might be at Facebook 2.0. ๐Ÿ™‚

Look at the last couple early online releases...

HTC Touch Pro: not a big seller. In fact, it's a big returner in our store. I had one for the last many months and was glad to give it up for the LG Versa. Touch Pro STILL isn't available in the stores around here.

Samsung Saga: a PDA "lite" in my opinion. Good for people not using their device much, but wants email and/or Windows. We have three. We've sold one, and got rid of another as an exchange when the customer realized the Storm was way too much phone for him. Not a big mover.

i actually spoke to a blackberry rep yesterday and he he told me that he didn't know what i was talking about when i inquired about the verizon release of the niagara. Then i asked if there were any plans for a new verizon blackberry, and he said he didn't know. he basically said there's nothing official, everything you hear about a release date is a rumor, but he also said that he's heard some very possible rumors. so who knows what their plan is. i kinda think he was just messing with me. lol

I got the official scoop on it from my contacts in VZW (I no longer work there). It will launch in June unless something cataclysmic happens. You can put my stamp of guarantee on that (or rather, my insider's stamp of guarantee).

This phone was made without WiFi. RIM did not put WiFi in it. It will be the same with Sprint and any other CDMA network.

I had AT&T for 13 years. After the new AT&T came in, everything went to crap. T-Mobile has horrible coverage, Sprint Roams to much, US Cellular is good only if you don't go outside your calling area. Verizon has worked in places you would think nothing worked. AT&T got to much into "the fewest droped calls" and "more bars in more places" they forgot how to keep that up, and Verizon took over.

And, I enjoy working for Verizon. They pay really well, the best of any network.

More bars in more places doesn't apply to the US anyway, if you read their fine print. They're talking about that minority segment that travels outside the US. But hey, it sounds good to the domestic users, too. Just like Rollover: not the most practical gimmick, but it sounds good.

ATT also has GSM radios in their phones while Verizon has CDMA.

ATT specifically asks for WiFi in their devices because ATT operated hundreds of WiFi hotspots that they use as a way to market their data packages (and make money off of travelers who need internet connection but don't want to spring for air cards. ATT makes a ton of money off of wifi, verizon/sprint do not. Thus they don't require those radios in their devices.

Verizon does not "lock:" wifi on devices to include it, but if a manufacturer can save some money by removing a feature that the carrier doesn't utilize, why wouldn't they?
