Google Maps now makes use of the Blackbery Storm's internal GPS

BUT, any previous Verizon Blackberry is out of luck because apparently the GPS chip isn't publicly accessible. I don't know who is to blame for this, Verizon or RIM (most likely big V). I hope this is something that can be updated with software...

umm...

The storm has always been unlocked.

All blackBerrys are unlocked now also.

I use Google Maps on my BlackBerry.

I just dont see where they got this at..

My friends who has a Storm has always been able to use Google Maps.

In the past 3 weeks ive been able to use Google maps on my BB as well.

Yes, Google Maps has worked. However, it has not made use of the internal GPS up to this point on any Verizon Blackberry device. It has instead used a technique known as triangulation, which gives an approximate location via cell phone towers. The location would be within 1500m or so, no where near the accuracy of GPS. In addition, Google Latitude should work much better now for Verizon Blackberry users (if you choose to be stalked by friends).

I prefer BB Maps on my VZW Curve...Much more accurate.

Wow ,just installed google Maps on my Storm. I had to go to the web to get the link sent to my Blackberry storm. Then it was easy to install. It seems like a good application. The price is also right. Free 😁 😁
