Verizon to lay off?
So i heard a rumor today that verizon plans on laying off 5000 employees. Anyone hear anything about that could shed some truth behind this? I'm hoping its just a rumor. Any info on this would be great and obviously helpful to you verizon workers. -Thanks

I saw this article in the NYT on the internet concerning the layoffs. If you can't get this site. Then go into google it this article will come up. The original article was dated in December but it was posted in today's paper

People should also note that Verizon and Verizon Wireless are separate companies.

Not stirring and could care less about what you think. I was simply asking a question about the truth of a rumor i heard. If you can't handle that suck it up and get over it. Big companies even if they turn profits can make cuts during hard time or in prep for hard times. If it weren't possible why did they lay off 90% of the staff that were at the cc stores? Is verizon not big enough to offer those reps besides 10% of them different jobs? As "logical" as it sounds it seems to look different on paper vs the garbage you are spewing out.

Well I can confirm that yes Verizon has started lay offs. I however cannot say how many as I'm unaware. I was lay ed off two weeks ago. This is affecting sales and managers.

Well at first I was not aware of the previous posts regarding it so I was miffed to say the least. After thinking about it and having two long weeks to think it over I don't believe it was malicious but the good thing is I know my fate and the waiting is over.

I don't think any company wants to "lay off" if it were malicious i'm sure they'd rather fire you instead. They'd have a chance to fight unemployment at least that way.
