I have a buddy that wants to buy my HTC 6800. He has Verizon service and my phone was obiously through Alltel.

I can go to a Verizon corporate store, but I was hoping someone could give me a 100% certain answer.

Thanks! 🙂

At this point, we are still treating the two as seperate companies. Still a lot of stuff to be worked out. Although the aquisition has gone through, there are still different interfaces on the handsets and we are not yet able to service Alltel devices.

I have never tried activating a Windows Mobile device like that but I know an Alltel V3m or Alltel Audiovox 8900 will activate on Verizon, the reason being Verizon locks phones off the network by using a device called a DMD. Basically, if the serial number is in the DMD it will activate no matter if it were an Alltel, Sprint, or MetroPCS phone. Programming and getting the data features to work on that is another story, what I would recommend is to download a cooked Verizon ROM for the XV6800 (search the net they are everywhere) and install it on your Alltel device then try to do an ESN/MEID change online as most stores won't activate a non-Verizon device (although I would in my day, mostly because I like a challenge).

No matter what an...

When you take it into the store they will attempt to activate it. If they are unable to then they will send it to the warehouse (as long as the phone is in working order) and they will send it back to you either approving/denying it on the network. This of course if the ESN is not in the DMD already. The process will take about 2 weeks.

Do they really do this? My indirect account manager looked into this and told me that the "certifying process" is only for OEM's not for consumers, besides every corporate store I take a "non verizon cdma phone" into has no idea what "warehouse" they are supposed to send it to or anything...maybe it's exclusive to your region? (I'm in the mountain region).

Most stores will not activate the phone because it is a Alltel phone. Try to activate the phone online, you may be able to activate the phone but you will not get all of the features on the phone to work. It should program with *228, opt 1, if not you will have to manually program the phone. There is a chance it will work but like said before, some of the data features will not work and also your billing for you calls may get screwed up.

I was asking about the "any app, any device" certification...nothing to do with the OP's question look at my response to the OP and you'll notice I already said what you just did...

Open access is not available yet. The Alltel transition should be completed soon. To my understanding vzw will not be allowing Alltel customers to keep their Alltel phones. They will have to get new phones and will receive a credit towards the phone. There has been no official word on when the open access will go into effect. Sorry about the last post.
