Verizon's GSM European capabilities
With the first GSM/CDMA phone, I expect there is even more testing that must go on - they have to test it literally on both sides of the Atlantic. I'm sure that is extending an already long process. It's a priority for Verizon, but the last time they rushed testing was the infamous T720. Given that experience, I doubt Verizon will release the A790 until they're sure it's ready.

BEDMINSTER, N.J. (Reuters) - Verizon Wireless will begin offering in April a wireless telephone that will work on mobile networks in the United States, Europe and Asia, the company's Chief Executive Officer Denny Strigl said on Tuesday.
The No. 1 U.S. wireless carrier hopes it will be able to better challenge rivals around the world as customers will be able to use one phone in dozens of countries, a key demand among business travelers.
"You will see the evidence of a major project that we've been working for a couple years on very shortly which is our global phone," Verizon Wireless CEO Denny Strigl told Reuters in an interview.

That said, Reuters reported that Verizon has plans for an April release of a CDMA/GSM phone.
Will it happen in April? Your guess is as good as any.
