I need some serious help from people that actually can

So I'm frustrated. Mad. Irritated. Escalated. 👿

Here's the story:
I lost my job with vzw, and I was provided with a separation website that gives me advice on what to do with certain things such as insurance, 401k, and my employee account. The employee account took me to the employee phone program policies and it states two very important things:

1) No ETF's for employees while they are on the EPP.

2) Separated employees have 10 business days to either close their accounts or convert to full consumer accounts. If you don't convert, the EPP will close everything.

So, with this information that was provided to me by the COMPANY, I did what I had to do. Converted one line, disconnected my others (I couldn't afford the other ...

Btw, please forgive my selfishness if I bump this post to the top every once in a while. I need to do this.

Thanks for your understanding

Well, I would recommend you file it as part of an unemployment claim with your state's employment agency. I would also file a wage claim against them, if your state allows. I would then file a claim with the Public Utilities Commission in your state. If you have something in writing then you should be fine. Do you still have access to that employee website or did you print out that information?

I don't have access to the employee website (IT deleted my credentials/log-ins I assume)

I do have a hard copy of the info, and I still have the URL I was provided with. I even had a care supervisor read over the info with me himself, and he still blew me off! He said to "call HR." Which to me, is an acknowledgment that I have a valid argument.

I have already spoken to unemployment, so I'm sure it's too late for that. I can mention my bill issues with those agencies? What you said is a little over my head.

Thanks for your reply.

In what state were you employed? Most states allow for you to file a wage claim. This could indirectly considered a wage claim since they are now retracting a benefit available due to your employment. All states have some form of Public Utilities Commission that handles disputes with public utilities such as the electricity providers. Cell phone carriers fit into this catagory.

VZW Employee Handset and Service Program

Early Terminate Fee (ETF)
The Early Termination Fee (ETF) does not apply to employee accounts.

Employment Termination
A terminated employee is responsible for either closing or transitioning his/her employee account into a full retail consumer account. Upon receiving a terminated/separated notification from VZW Human Resources, VZW will terminate the employee account within ten days of termination/separation if the employee has not transitioned the account to a consumer account.

So...where is the error that I made in requesting disconnect?

From reading it maybe you're supposed to do nothing to the lines that you don't want to keep? Sounds like you just leave them be and they will terminate them for you... maybe a special procedure with special codes that automatically don't charge ETF's? Sounds like the rep that processed it didn't do it like it should have been done to avoid the ETF... or maybe... from reading that.... they rep should have just converted the line you wanted to keep and left the others alone to automatically be terminated?

I asked a question similar to that and I was told that etf's would have applied. I think it's crap that since I'm an ex-employee I get treated this way. It's like automatic empowerment for vzw to vent their frustrations on regular consumer customers on employees & the like. Its their one chance to say no, no, no.

ETF's for EPP went into effect earlier 2008, about the same time as the move to Nationwide pricing for all employees. If you purchased a new phone after that date, you agreed to a one year contract.

I would try my best to get back in touch with your HR rep and possibly contact executive relations. You will be able to give them copies of what you were given and your ETF should be waived as a courtesy.
Keep in mind that although your HR rep provided you with incorrect information when terminated, You actually agreed to the contract terms and conditions when you ordered and activated you phone. Although, you may not have been read the box before you clicked it and you may not have listed to the IVR during activation.

We don't know if he upgraded or added a line after this policy went into effect. I know that I won't be upgrading or adding a line...ever.

Didn't have to do IVR, did esn change via my account. Apparently I missed the policy change by 3 weeks. How do I get in touch with executive relations?

just contact your local HR person...that's their job. If no help. keep going up that chain. Employee or not, you still deserve to be treated with respect.

I'm seriously trying. I just don't have access to info like that anymore, so if my old rep doesn't call me back, I don't know who's next in the chain.

I got a reply from my old area president:

Josh,

I apologize for the problems you've experienced. I've asked Anthony Bowman to issue a credit for the ETF today. You can expect to receive an e-mail from Anthony or one of the CS Directors with confirmation that the credit has been issued.

Again, my apologies

Tami Erwin

Thanks for all the advice, this issue should be over.

Ya, she's the President of the West Area now (forgive me if I'm repeating myself. I can't remember if I already said that).

I'm a fan of hers now. 🙂

I already got my confirmation email from the West Area VP of Customer Service, Anthony Bowman.

p.s. I'm not really bitter from this situation as I can understand people were just trying to do their job, but all the passing the buck activity just got ridiculous. I'm glad its resolved. I'll end up bringing business back to VZW once I get things straightened out.

I'll be contributing to PhoneScoop as a consumer now, not as an employee. But I'll still be just as educated. 😛
