New PRL Question
I have not contacted Verizon to make any contract changes.

Does the new Verizon PRL just update my coverage areas and still include the 69 cent per minute roaming or does it update the coverage and remove my phone from being able to roam?

It has to do with the price plan on your account. To get the new NO roaming ever you have to call in and request you be put on the new price plan codes
Could be wrong, but my understanding is that some of the old roaming areas are now 'on the network' areas (you get service + no roaming fees), and some are now no service. It depends on where you live.
Of course, its hard to tell what with the VZW site still showing the old AC maps... I'm going off the leaked map from Wireless Advisor.com. What's up with the VZW site? 😕

I don't know if that's strictly true.

so with the new no roaming, all Verizon will be doing is what cingular and nextel does? If you have service you have service if you dont then you dont?
Good question... Can someone elaborate?

It's true. You either get service or you don't

Then what differentiates Verizon from Cingular now... A point that alot of people on here used to bring up is that "At least I will have the ability to make a call, where on GSM you can't"? That was a key selling point for some people. 😳
Maybe the new coverage is bigger than Cingular's?? 😲

All of our new posters say "The Nation's Largest Calling Area without roaming charges"

Ah. And now we see the point of the whole exercise. 🙂
Comparing the new 'no roam' AC national map (have a copy from Wireless Advisor even though its not on the VZW site yet) to the Cingy GSM one, no roam AC appears to be bigger overall, probably in part because of the former roaming areas that are now part of the network proper. In a couple of states Cingy is better, but in more states VZW is better.
Reliability? Diehard Cingy folks will argue the point until they keel over and die, but things like Consumer Reports consistently point to VZW being more reliable and having fewer problems with dropped calls and overloaded networks. Matches personal experience too, and reflects...
