New PDA's to expect from VZW in '09?

SHIVA

Now that the HTC Touch Pro, Omnia, and BB Storm are out, I'd guess that VZW is done putting out new PDA's and BBs for the time being.

Do you guys know what we might expect from VZW in the first 6 months of the new year? I am looking for a PDA, running on WMP, with a slide out keyboard and hopefully 3.5" screen. Sort of like the Omnia (I know it's 3.2), but with keyboard.

Thanks very much for your input.

Nothing in the works that I know of.

Have you look at the touch pro, that seems to meet most of your requirements.

I have the i760 that I am very happy with. I just want a similar phone with larger screen. I know HTC is higher rez, but it's still 2.8". Thanks.

I am surprised no one has any prediction on upcoming VZW PDAs...

That is because PDA's are the most delayed group of products ever. Too many things can cause a delay to ever guess when they will come out. There are plenty of them released now that meet what you are looking for, Touch Pro, Omnia, Saga (minus the slide out keyboard)...I wouldn't really look for much in the first 6 months with the onslaught that just came out. Maybe a couple...but who knows when. The Omnia is a nice little phone...and this is coming from someone who HATES Samsung...

not sure if I mentioned but I'm looking for a replacement for my i760. Which has been simply a wonderful phone. I'd only replace this phone with another WMP PDA that has a larger screen than 2.8 (don't care for resolution) and a slideout keyboard.

So, at this point there is no such a phone, even on competing networks.

So, I am asking if you guys know what's ahead. Thanks,

The replacement to the i760 was the i770...or Saga...this phone has already been released. Not every "replacement" will have the same form factor.

At this point...there is no one that will "leak" the pda line-up for 2009. Don't expect anything to be announced until...surpise surprise....2009. It's too early at this point for rumors to even start. So at this time...you can stop wondering and go with a "no...there are no phones in the first 6 months that will meet your specifications."

When there is something to get leaked, then it will get leaked. If you really wanna stay up to date on rumors and leaks, read Boy Genius Report or Engadget Mobile everyday. They always get leaks first.

I usually post big leaks, if I see them on other blog sites

the problem with going on those sites is that you see smart phones that will never come to VZW. so, no need to get my hopes up.

Do you know if XPERIA will be available for VZW?
How about new NOKIA's?

I am sure the answer to both is no... 🙂 S

SE does not make CDMA devices, so prolly no xperia. Keyboard sucks on that phone anyway. I think its a little overrated and SE is charging $800 for it. Ridiculous.

Nokia makes a handful of cdma devices, but most of their high end stuff is GSM.

I haven't personally used it, but I hate sliders because your fingers always touch the top half of the sliding portion and it slows down typing. Atleast that has been my experience.

Also, BGR commented on the keyboard when he did a review a few months back.

Just curious. If you ever go to CES or CTIA you might try it before ripping it. It is a pretty good keyboard and that was back in April.

I also wanted to ask so I knew for sure what you meant. Don't need Midnight thinking I have any more reading issues.

I am not a fan of mac products. They are just a company that make fashion accessories.

And I dislike anything with that damn apple on it, or AT+T for selling that overrated product.

Thanks for the suggestion though. 🙂 S

Not really, Verizon is going the route of opening up access greatly. What's the chances you'll ever see Apple sell their OS so that you can put it on a Dell, HP, Sony, etc?

You want Mac OS, you're sticking with an Apple product.

You obviously do not own any of their products b/c they are untouchable when it comes to usability. Why so anti-this and anti-that? All good products should be given a test drive so that you can make the best and most informed decision about what to purchase.

I agree...They are great for those who don't read and enjoy a lot of hand holding at the expense of giving up total control of your own choices. Sorta like Verizon. I can understand why two "total control" organizations could not marry in the first place.

Your reply is so typical of Mac users: Never any substance.

How do you know what I use and what I don't? Yet you assume.

Mac's are highly overrated. And normally used by people who have very little knowledge of computers. I am not pro PCs, nor pro Microsoft, but when it comes to computing, they have 95% of the market and in computing the size of the community matters. computers are about connecting people together, in addition to be useful tools for work, play and life. Hence the massive user community is a huge advantage, not just in software choices, but due to the size of the industry and nature of business competition, the PC industry is able to offer products at much cheaper rates than Mac. Why? Because Mac's are a monop...

It'll work though.

Maybe I'm mixing who said what in my head but I could've sworn that Lee Iacocca went on TV when his company was going down the toilet and then it picked up greatly after that.

yeah go try ATT so you can drop phone calls left and right without even moving, you get some junky pantech pda that crashes once a day and cant find any 3g coverage at all so you search for wi fi, where you cant insure ur higher end devices and ur per MB charges are 5xs more expensive then Verizon.

Sounds like fun?

The Pantech Slate is not a smartphone, honey.

And I never drop calls with AT&T. I had Verizon in my area and I DID drop calls. so boo ya!

The Omnia is right up your ally, minus the keyboard... The Omnia has a Captive touch screen, though, so a slide out keyboard shouldn't be an issue anyways. It is also the best PDA phone on the market right now in terms of capability, etc. Nothing touches it!

The Touch Pro is really close to your wants too, although it's screen is smaller than you desire. It does have the full keyboard. And the screen on it is fantastic! It might be so great, you don't even notice it isn't as big as you would like.

As for a 3.5" screen w/full keyboard, keep dreaming! Such a device will likely never be made, a touch screen that size shouldn't need a keyboard, even if it is resitive touch.
