Storm really isnt exclusive
if the storm is GSM capable, whats stopping me from popping my at&t SIM card into it and using on thier network

Without knowing, I assume that U.S. GSM carriers will be blocked. Is the same true with Canadian GSM carriers since Verizon has roaming agreements with Canadian CDMA carriers?

No you can not unlock it. If you buy the phone full retail and you try to unlock it and damage the phone software, u will be stuck with it.

you also won't be be able to register it with the Blackberry server...no e mail no web. or picture messiging

I'm sure someone will find a way ... if the PS2 has enough power to control an ICBM, im pretty sure the Storm can be unlocked w/o issues eventually ...

You need to register the esn on a network to get your bis. I dout that will be possable. The phone also does not have the right GSM frequency to work here in the U.S.

Actually it is Quadband GSM so it DOES have the US GSM frequencies...now getting it to work is another matter.

Im sure there will be an unlock code sooner or later, but as of now it has this capability because it is a global phone. your at&t or Tmob sim is not going to work

What's stopping you? The fact thatif you unlock the phone you couldn't use any of the "smartphone" features because it is not a phone that any other american carrier can host on their network (while traditional unlocked phones are made to be universal)
