New pricing packages effective 11/16/08

I read on another website about new pricing packages similar to those that Sprint offers are going into effect on 11/16/08. Can anyone who works for VZW elaborate? Do these pricing packages only work on non pda / smart phones?

Thanks in advance!

The only pricing plans that i have heard of are the connect price plans. These are price plans between the select and premium that give unlimited Megabytes (for GIN, mobile web) and mobile email. It's $10.00 more than the select and $10.00 less than the premium.

I've also heard of a few feature changes but that's about it. Nothing that would compare with sprint.

If there were new (well better) price plans coming out they would be doing trainings for it. When the unlimited price plan came out they had us train all of our reps about this before they came out. So that's why I don't think any GREAT price plans are going to be coming out.

I wish Verizon would simplify their pricing. Now that pricing plan changes do not extend contracts, all these Select. Connect, Premium plans are just gimmicks. Simplify. I love Sprints Simply Everything plan. I wonder what kind of discount their reps get off of that plan?

I definately agree with you about simplifying the pricing, however it gives customers options. Not a lot of people out there want the internet but may want unlimited messaging.

I think with sprint you pay an arm and a leg for data without a package (something like $10.00/MB whereas VZW is $1.99/MB) so the connect plan is kind of a nice little step up.

Agreed - Follow the clarity of their European branch - Vodaphone. Very simple and clear (reasonable) pricing plans.

While fewer options would be great, the options are there because of how crazy consumers are.

They come into our store where we have almost 20 different phone models on display (several showing off multiple colors) and the first words out of their mouths are "This is all you've got?"

For some reason Customers demand having as many options as possible, even if they are only really interested in one phone/feature. This is where the plans come from. It can get confusing, but if we dropped even one feature (or dropped the plan and added it all as features) there would people complaining that we were removing their choices and forcing them into a plan they didn't want.

Verizon does have a "simply everything plan." at $139.99 (129.99 if...

You lost me on that first paragraph. Does this mean that unlimited internet for phones (not smartphones) is going to be $10 a month? if they are lowering it I'll be the happiest man on earth

Only if you're on the connect plan. The connect plan includes the select plan (unlimited messaging) plus unlimited data for $10 more than select.

so i dont understand all this "connect plan" or "select plan". With ATT is just $15 for unlimited internet on phones and $30 on smartphones. I just hope verizon brings the price down, cuz i know ATT will do so as well 😛 I have 4 phones that have unlimited media net for $15 a month, if it goes down to $10 that's $20 I'll be saving per month! COME ON VZ lower your internet package (whatever it's called!!!! ) 😎

It is lower than AT&T, the internet feature will be 10.00 for non-pda's with the new plans. The pda plans are 29.99 or 44.99. You want VZW to lower there plans but AT&T isn't. These companies are in business to make a profit, if you can not afford it, or you don't want to pay for it.........then don't. AT&T tries mirror VZW on plans prices and feature prices.

that's what I was saying. Im pretty sure ATT will follow suit and lower its media net from $15 to $10 as well, which is awesome for me!

We're talking in Verizoneese and you're thinking in AT&Teese. Let me elaborate on what others have already told you.

You're talking about AT&T's Media Net Unlimited, which is $15 per month. AT&T's web site describes Media Net Unlimited as "unlimited high-quality video with CV, unlimited mobile web with MEdia Net and unlimited access to email, ringtones, games, music and more."

Verizon's version of this is VCast VPack, which is also $15 per month. VCast VPack gives you unlimited VCast Video services, unlimited Mobile Web 2.0, and unlimited browsing of these features as well as Get It Now, Verizon's application for downloading games, ringtones, and more.

OK. Now that we've covered the STAND-ALONE feature, let me venture into Veriz...

It does clear some things up, and I thank you. I guess I got excited too soon. I just dont understand why you guys complicate things by giving those names that don't mean anything to the customer (even me, I work in the industry and to be honst with you, I still don't understand what's so special about this new connect plan.
At least AT&T calls them by what they are. They have the Talk and Text. Talk, Text and Web etc etc.
I could only imagine how hard it must be for you to explain this to Bob, from Mississipi who calls inquiring about these plans... yay!

Thanks for the clarification.

Sadly, it states that VZW is still not trying to be competitive with Sprints pricing plans, where if you get a 450 minute everything plan, you get unlimited text and unlimited web with no strings attached. Also, Sprints pricing is not specific to dumbphones or smartphones, all phones are eligible, whereas VZW and at&t still charge more for internet access on smartphones.

I'm sure if AT&T and Verizon were losing customers at the same rate as Sprint's, they'd be doing the same thing.

Don't get me wrong - I had high regard for Sprint for a very long time. I always thought that if I left VZW for a competitor, it would be for Sprint. But the once great company isn't what it used to be, despite the value of their plans.

For me, that speaks volumes - they 1.3 million customers last quarter. They've been giving away at no additional cost what they used to charge extra for, and still lose 1.3 million customers. I can't look the other way. I can't ignore the white elephant in the room. Sprint has awesome pricing right now - because they HAVE to, just to try and cauterize the area where their arms used to...
