Chocolate 3 or enV2?

I still have a while before I can make the switch, but I am always excited about my "next" phone. It's a kina pathetic actually. I'm like a little kid sometimes when it comes to tech toys. 🤤

Anyhow, I'm trying to decide between the Chocolate 3 and the enV2. Both seem like pretty good phones and both have gotten good reviews. I don't do a ton of texting so I am really slow at it on a regular key pad. The enV2's QWERTY keyboard would help me a LOT in that area, but again...I don't text much. I like the look of both phones but I'm a little worried about all the pocket-dials I have been reading about on the enV2. I don't want a complicated combination of key-strokes to unlock the phone. Honestly, the Chocolate 3 has risen to t...

enV2 = text/messaging eccentric. once you go keyboard you can't go back. you can do a lot more with the keyboard than just txt, like inputting contact info more efficiently and entering events into your calender more quickly. you will also find yourself using the notepad feature a lot more than you would with a standard phone keypad - i use the notepad feature all the time.

Chocolate 3 = music eccentric. the biggest seller for this device is the fact that it has a 3.5mm jack so you can use any audio headset in it. the other big seller is the fact that it has a FM tuner built in so you can listen to your music while driving a lot more easier with this baby. I'd download a week worth of Colin Cowherd ESPN radio shows onto this thing (...

You made some really good points there about the QWERTY keyboard being useful for entering contacts and calendar events. I hadn't thought about that. Hmmm...so now you have the enV2 back on the top of my list. But I am still worried about pocket dials. Not so much for myself but for my son. My wife's phone is through her job but me and our son are on a family share plan. We'll probably each get the same phone and I'm worried about him pocket dialing all the time. How big of a problem is it on the enV2? I read that there is a "fix" but it envolves making the unlock a two-key process. That may not be a big deal but it sounds like a pain in the butt.

the unlock feature on the env2 isn't complicated or that big of a deal at all. a lot of my friends have it and they have their phone unlocked within a second of removing it from their pockets. i have the original env.

I pocket dial probably about once a week (either w/ random numbers are someone in the phonebook). And that's with my lock feature on the phone (to unlock I press the OK button twice) Sure, it is annoying when you pull your phone out and you are like "damnit I called someone" but it's not a deal breaker.

Rumor has it that there is a firmware update that fixes the "pocket dial" problem by modifying the phone lock feature or something.

See...that's what I can't have happening. My son's current phone is a candybar style and he pocket-dials all the time. We're currently with AT&T and we have a ton of rollover minutes so it's never a big deal. If he does it when we're on VZW it could be a problem. I read that the fix on the enV2 is a software update that changes the unlock to two separate keys. That's probably not too bad, but it sounds like a hassle.

It's truly not a hassel. I can do it with my eyes closed in 0.5 seconds. It's pressing the "OK" then "CLR", which are adjacent to each other. I'd go to the store and try it out yourself.

If you are considering the Chocolate for him, I'd get it if he has a car so he can use the built in FM tuner to play his music or talk show radios through his car speakers from his phone.

He wont be driving for about 5 months and he doesn't have a car yet. Of course, we'll be signing the typical 2 year contract so I guess whatever phone he gets he will have well into his senior year.

If the new unlock isn't a hassle and it does prevent pocket-dials, I think the enV2 might be the best bet.
