Color Display Quality

I just checked out the new LG 4500, and was quite impressed -- much thinner and sleeker than LG normally produces. Unfortunately, like the Samsung a530, this phone also has STN display.

How hard is it to view an STN display in direct sunlight? Is it worth it to wait for a thin phone with TFT (knowing Verizon, that might be 2 years)?

I'm rather upset that the Samsung a500 for Sprint, which is probably over two years old now, offered TFT in a stylish and ultra-slim package.

How important is STN vs. TFT for a display? Years ago, it was critically important to get a TFT notebook computer display.

I'd appreciate any thoughts.
