Is the iPhone 3G really worth........

infinitehorizon

Today I spoke with a customer who wanted to get his account number. I asked why he needed that and he stated he was taking his numbers (5) to AT&T. When I asked why, he said he desperately wanted the iPhone and that our LG Dare was quote "garbage".

I explained that he was under contract on all lines, and that ETF's would total $725 ($145 per line), then reminded him that the iPhone is $199 (he mentioned he was getting 3 of them). I mean, that's $1322!!! 😲

In todays economy, is the phone really that fantastic that you are willing to put down over $1300 just to get it?? Someone please enlighten me!!

If the phone was on Verizon, people would be coming over from other carriers and doing the same thing. Its all about the UI, the browser and the way the graphics look so sharp and colorful. The phone itself with no way to change the battery, just plain sucks.

Sadly the Dare is garbage. But the customer will get his ETFs back after VZW gets sued like Sprint did 🤣

so the dare is garbage huh? what's this statment based on? and verizon's ETF's are discounted as the contract progresses, so it doesn't violate California's laws.

VZW already settled ... $21 million ... man what a bargain, hahaha.

The Dare is garbed. I played with it at the VZW store. i'm sorry, but once you play with the iPhone's interace, you become spoiled. Their user-interaction controls and interface and UI is in a category of its own.

makes me want to get the new HP TouchSmart

Other than the webbrowser, I don't think it's a good device. I don't get how people think it's the best UI. Personally, I think the BB UI is perfectly designed and the trackball is a great idea too.

lol I wished you could watch the account. I bet they come back in 2 weeks! A lot of customers make that mistake. I just wished there was a penalty for being stupid.

Sadly, there isn't. And he'll likely get some sort of incentive when he comes back, which makes it all the most disgusting.

I made the mistake. A friend and I both ported from Verizon to AT&T for the iPhone 3G. My friend was no longer under contract and I had about six months left. I can tell you that the iPhone is a very sweet phone. The only downfalls would be that the battery dies quickly and the UI as of right now is kinda glitchy. If the iPhone was with Verizon, I would be back in a heartbeat!!! AT&T's network sucks. After using Verizon for almost two years and having AT&T now, I can quite honestly say that I don't know how anybody can stand AT&T's sub-par service. They really need more towers in more places.

People I've talked to that has AT&T said it sucks, how do they keep getting customers anyway? People dropping out of Verizon are complaining about expensive plans, crappy phones, and a lame UI...hey I ported to another carrier too, and it was at least CDMA, but it sucked so I came running back to Verizon and I'm staying. People take Verizon for granted, they have a great network, none are perfect but Verizon is the closest thing to it. Verizon doesn't have that expensive plans, they compair to other carriers, if they do at least its worth it. Actually I made up a plan with ATT in case I wanted to switch and it was alot more expensive than Verizon. Either with ATT or VZW I'll never have just a basic plan, but I'll save money with VZW com...

Yeah, I know. I even knew that AT&T had really bad coverage around where I live. Even in some bigger cities, AT&T is sub-par. I really think it has to do with them being GSM. GSM just doesn't work in rural or suburban areas unless they put a tower up every couple miles. Because the thing with GSM is you have to have full service or near it to make a good call. CDMA is totally different. You can make amazing calls no matter how many bars you have, so the carrier doesn't have to have as many towers.

My friend that got the iPhone with me had always had Verizon, so when he switched to AT&T, he didn't even understand what a dropped call was!!! Or what distorted calls were!! Verizon's network, and most CDMA networks in general are pretty amazi...

I guess its because ATT has pretty much everything, rollover min, manufacturer UI and a brand name, just no quality. I mean Verizon is a big brand too, and alot of user options as well but they do seem to deligate everything they do on their network right down to the UI and American hate being told what to do or what to choose. I think Verizon is lightening up on their policies and its not that bad, and when you add the coverage they have and the quality their network is the best hands down

CDMA's much more efficient (which allows for many times the number of calls going on at any given time in any given area when compared to a GSM network) and has a smoother hand-off from tower to tower.

Are we reaching a point where call quality not as important?
I mean 10yrs ago it was paramount and to a point is very important still today.
But look at the way people use their phones now, people email, text and chat instead of voice.

The cell phone is nothing but a status symbol now. Younger folks (teens and us in our 20's) want a cool phone to show off.
Having an iPhone or Blackberry, driving a sports car, having designer clothes...all it comes down to is the look.

I don't buy it. I know the iPhone is pretty rad, but I'm not making the switch. I'll take call quality and customer service and a phone that does what I want it to do, not what I want others to see it do.

Call quality is important, but I'm to the point where I'd rather not listen to someone's personal life story while I'm checking out at the grocery store. People are just obnoxious (and LOUD) in public on their phones. I prefer texting because of that. That being said, though, I'll stick with CDMA over GSM anyday.
