There was a lot of anticipation for the Dare among the cell phone geeks. It was released. It didn't make a big splash like the cell phone geeks thought it would. It's not an "iPhone killer," although personally, I don't think anything will ever really kill the iPhone.

If people stopped comparing thing to the Iphone I mean jesus. The dare is awesome. Has the best camera I have seen ever on a VZW phone. Full browser, cool little apps. like you most called contacts (fav. contacts) Look at the phone for what it is. Please Please go to ATT buy the Iphone. It is awesome as well. Too bad youll experience lackluster service both in the reception department and customer care. Dropped you phone, holy crap Hope your job buys the 500 or so phone again for you. Sorry man. The dare is one of the best things besides a BB (which is PDA) VZW has ever had

Hmmm okay.

As far as I'm concerned, it's a great non-smartphone, but I'd never have expected for it to kill the iPhone.

From what I've seen, overall response to this device has been pretty good. I guess I was just missing all the hype and people who really thought it was an iPhone killer.

Thanks.

You must not be paying attention. Every time a new touch screen device comes out, someone is referring to it as an "iPhone killer."

Really? I stay on these boards often, and of course there are fanboys here and there, but have that many people been really proclaiming it to kill iPhone?

I do see comparisons to it, but not a mass of people touting it to be the "killer."

Actually, within the last few days, www.yahoo.com had an article on the iPhone 3G and comparable phones. One of the phones listed was the Dare. So the journalists over at Yahoo's tech site are making the comparisons for one. I tried to find a link, but it's off the main page now.

It's back on Yahoo's main page. Since it will probably be gone in a few hours, here's the direct link. It's a video this time.

I don't think anyone with real knowledge of cell phones thought it would be an Iphone Killer. I haven't even seen it touted by anyone from LG or Verizon. Anyone with any real cell phone knowledge and common sense would know that, because it's not a smartphone, like the Iphone is, it can't compete in every area, such as 3rd party app support, browser, processor speed/power, synching abilites, calendar functionality, and/or email support. It's a regular cell phone with a touchscreen and a basic html browser. From my personal use with it. It's one of the best non-smartphones available, and the touchscreen works great.

I don't really consider the iPhone a smartphone either. My Blackberry really has more capabilities than the iPhone does, but the iPhone is a lot more attractive.

The Iphone is obviously a smartphone because it can sync with Outlook and has device based email client natively, and also has support for 3rd party software, and also has an actually computer o/s on it.

iPhone 3G will kill, or should kill the iPhone. Apple set a new standard, and did a great job on their iPhone. Plus, it was only their 1st year, and what a splash Apple made. Looking forward to seeing more of Apple's mobile products. Cheers.

Yeah, the iPhone 3G is perfect!!! It has 3G now (which has been out for years now) on a network that doesn't have a quality 3G network and it has GPS which doesn't even give your turn by turn direction...but yeah it's perfectly awesome...iPhone rules!!!!

iPhone 3G is still the iPhone.

I really just hate Apple as a company. Everyone seems to have such a great opinion of all of their products, but I don't think they're particularly original and they're all overpriced. I get really irritated by the Apple snobs (you know the people I'm talking about).

I was totally being sarcastic in my previous post. I am very sick of hearing about apple and how good their products are. Don't get me wrong, I like some of their products..I'm actually typing on my macbook and I own an iPod...but yeah, all of these apple fanboys really make me hate that i own apple products...the fanboys are so ridiculously obnoxious and it's really sad...they live and breath apple.

To each, his own...I think that's how the saying goes. But I respect your opinion. I got a Macbook because I didn't like windows either and I had that "fanboy" mentality of wanting to be different from the mainstream. but now that I have a macbook it feels like i've become apart of the apple cult who claim they are different and special from everyone else. I enjoy using my macbook and iPod but i'm also aware that they have limitations so I don't proclaim that apple products are the best and perfect which is completely untrue. but hey, in the end, they're just products and shouldn't be taken too seriously

Actually....if you compare the features between the iphone and the dare you'll see they are quite comparable. The Dare has been far from a bust. I think Verizon has done a poor job of marketing it. The functionality of the phone is superb. I came out of a blackberry pearl into the dare and have not second guessed my decision once. I use mobile email to get my pop3 work email as well as my personal hotmail/yahoo/gmail accounts. Very solid phone. Closest thing that Verizon will ever carry to an Iphone. I say that this phone is a very solid addition to the line up and has set the standard for Verizon's touch screen phones. The UI is fresh and very interactive. I give it an A+.

Actually, I have to disagree. The two phones are nowhere near each other (other than they are touchscreen phones).

When it comes to the web browser (not the speed itself), the iPhone wins hands down. The music player is also nice with built in memory, which is a win for the iPhone for most people (some people like removable memory).

When it comes to every other category, the Dare wins. It has a better camera that can send/recv picture messages, record video and send/recv video messages (mms, not email). It has a real GPS solution. Not to mention, removable battery.

So, they are only alike in touch screen. The iPhone holds the awards for web browser and music player. The Dare (and almost every other phone out there) hold the awards i...

My apologies. i should rephrase what i said. Depending on what features you are after...the dare could be a much better phone than the iphone and vice versa. For those who do not have the option of at&t service. The dare would be a phone of comparable nature with few limitations.

The Dare seems to be doing excellent so far..., the marketing for the device hasn't been anything like the voyager had, and it's selling much better than the Voyager.

In fact, I've heard that the Dare has been pushed back to September for employees because of the high demand!

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. The iPhone is a spectacular gadget, but a lousy WIRELESS device/phone. Maybe I'm mistaken, but I pay over 100.00 per month for my phone, not my f'ing music player. People need to wake up. The only great thing about the iPhone in regards to wireless service is the marketing, which VZW should really work on. This phenomenon actually just proves how STUPID Americans can be. Why don't we all just go to a horrible carrier, for an INFERIOR "phone", be FORCED to pay 30.00 per month for data, that in order to use the highly sought after browser (give me a break), you are going to have to get for free in a WiFi zone anyway because the ATT 3G netwok is hardly visible on a map. Trolls come in here and talk ab...

You cry about get it now but gladly pay itunes for their locked down BS and how is a music phone left without bluetooth stereo support, my car radio has it and my last 3 verizon phones played music through it no prob. You guys crack me up, Verizon was limiting bluetooth and every one screamed bloody murder then when apple does it..oh that is OK (Hipocrits) Don't get me wrong the iphone is a cool phone but some of you act like it is Jesus reborn of the cell phone ...

I don't understand what all the ranting is about here.

Last week I decided to "retire" my LG Env for the Dare phone. I have had for a week already and it is something pretty wild. The more I use it the more I find it better than what I expected.

I have been out of contract prior to this about 6 months. Yes I could of gone to any carrier and gotten any phone. Or I could of waited for the Iphone2. I didn't get into the hype from the first Iphone let alone the second Iphone. I passed them both up.

I have always been pleased with Verizon customer service, I went from the VX6000 to E815 to the LG Env and now to the Dare. Every phone I have own worked flawlessly! And as for the coverage I never had a problem.

The Dare may no...

As usual, you made a ridiculous, unsubstantiated comment which (in and of itself) bares no reasonable fruit of any kind upon any measure and then DISAPPEAR from the discussion entirely.

Classic.

To the rest of you who actually tried to post something reasonable in response to his shenanigans, bravo.

I'm sure AvgJoe put a nice big bag of JiffyPop in the microwave just for the occasion of sneaking back in here to watch people argue about something he KNOWS is a complete fabrication (his original post).
