Rhapsody

Has anyone here signed up for Rhapsody through VZW yet? It's been a while since I used Rhapsody, so I'm curious as to how the unlimited use (with subscriptions) works with cell phones. I mean, don't the songs that aren't purchased (only synched as part of the subscription) have some sort of DRM? You'd think that the phones would need new software. I'm using a VX-8550, for the record.

The Chocolate 3 is the premiere Rhapsody phone when it launches, with the new layout. Other phones can use the scaled back version through VCast Music as they have been. The subscription and "unlimited use" is....an fun thing to explain. You have unlimited access to playlists with the subscription and you can preview all songs for free (online). You still pay $1.99 per song and get a copy for the phone and one for the PC or pay $0.99 on PC. The difference now is they are DRM free, which means you have no licensing to worry about anymore.

By the way...if anyone notices that something I said wasn't completely correct, go ahead and fix it because I'm trying to remember this off the top of my head without ever really paying attention t...

Wait...so, is it actually possible to synch songs temporarily with your phone (not buying them) for use as you would with an MP3 player that supports Rhapsody? If not, then that really blows. Assuming that I'm understanding this properly, is the Chocolate 3 supposed to allow you to use Rhapsody to Go?

And are you certain that the version that's downloaded to the phone is DRM-free? I really don't think that it is, as documentation only specifies that the copy downloaded on the PC is DRM-free.

Again, I'm basing this off loose memory and not 100% certain. I know what you download on PC is DRM free...on the phone I believe is not (not sure). And yes...you can download off your computer from any music site in mp3 or wma format and save those to the memory card under "My Music" and you can play all songs. Granted...the only downside is you have to adjust file names at times...but that's no biggie. With the Dare and Decoy ...and I guess Choc3...the "mass media storage" function allows you to plug into your computer and transfer files from PC to Card to work. It's a nice lil feature.

That still isn't quite what I was getting at, but I found my answer. The only phones that can do what I'm referring to are the Dare, the Glyde, the RAZR 2, the RIZR and the u550. I assume that the Chocolate 3 will allow this, too, as it'd only make sense.

Too bad about the 6205 not allowing it. Maybe I won't be getting that, after all. I really wanted the BatPhone, too. ☹️

Well...I did say there were only a few phones starting with a modified version of the VCast Music with Rhapsody player...didn't I?...But yea, Choc3 is the "official" phone for it and won't be all that expensive AND is pretty nice.

Amusingly, despite the Chocolate 3 not being released yet, you can see it in some of the public information about Rhapsody.

And I realize that you mentioned something about the modified player, but what I was looking for was whether or not current phones would support the DRM that's implmented for use with the Rhapsody to Go functionality, so your posts weren't *quite* what I was looking for. I wonder if discounts apply to Rhapsody as far as the month subscription cost goes...

I've been wanting to use Rhapsody for quite some time, so I'm glad that it's finally being offered with VZW. I'd like to be more familiar with the music software. Is Dare available for employees yet? I suppose that I could wait for th...

That's because the Choc3 isn't a secret. They made it public knowledge several weeks ago. The Dare still isn't available for employees and the Choc3 will probably be available before it is.

Oh, I realize that the Chocolate 3 isn't a secret, as I noticed that it was already publicly announced by VZW. I just thought that it was a bit peculiar that they wouldn't have used other, currently available devices in the marketing images.

Ahh...well it's nothing new to use a "soon-to-be-released" phone as the main device. It builds the hype of people going "oooo what's that?" Not to mention...it's coming pretty soon. The whole Rhapsody/Verizon partnership wasn't supposed to be announced until the Choc3 came out...but the Dare got pushed up in release (for competitive reasons) and it has the Rhapsody stuff in it....sooooooooo. OOPS!

I kinda wish that the Chocolate 3 would be available in blue mint, but I haven't seen any such choice yet.

Nah, that's blue ice. I have the blue mint VX-8550, which is the dark blue one. I never really felt as though anything "mint" could apply to a dark color, but meh.

To clarify the Rhapsody subscription,

For the 14.99 a month you get access to unlimited "music to go", meaning anything in their library you can put on your phone(up to 3 devices). You however, cannot burn these songs unless you purchase them for 99 cents. You aren't actually purchasing the music, you are more or less renting it. Once the service is canceled, anything purchased is kept but the rest you will lose access to.

Great service, but you do not own the music under that 14.99 subscription.

I understood the terms of the subscription. I was merely wondering which devices supported it so far. I've already found my answer.
