Question for Verizon employees...

Is it possible to buy an In-pulse type phone at a store and take it home and activate it on line with a contract account? Will that work? My son drowned his Venus and I'm not looking to replace it with an expensive phone at this point given his propensity for destroying expensive phones...thanks for any help you can give me...

unfortunately you can not. the prepay phones are stuck as a prepay for six months before you can switch it over to a post pay account.

And as far as I know, the prepay phones are wired to be pepay all the time. When doing a prepay conversion I've always had to sell new equipment when converting from prepay to postpay.
Insurance?

Thanks, I thought this might be the case. No insurance unfortunately. We're still drying out the Venus, I know if it works I will need a new battery but that's a small price to pay if it still works. I managed to dry out an HTC 6800 for my daughter successfully so I'm not giving up hope. Thanks again!

Worst Case Scenario, do not buy a new phone a full retail. There is a new policy at Verizon that if you have an issue not covered under warranty, i.e. liquid damage, you can purchase a new phone at the 1 yr contract price. It is a relatively new addition to the in house warranty option.

I do this for customers on a weekly basis. 1 year pricing on phones and you still get any applicable rebates. It has to be done at a COR store, but I am not sure if this is exclusive to just the South Area, but you can investigate it. If you have less than 1 yr on the contract for that line it will extend your contract for the year, and if the phone has a New Every 2 credit it will take it off. Limit 2 uses of this method. And you do have the option to...

It's not really a new concept its just recently been used a lot, I do about 3 of these a day at my location because we have such high traffic. I also am in the South area. As for your NE2 it does NOT take it off if it is a primary line, it will stay. I did one today and the upgrade date for the customer went to 10 months and NE2 was as it was originally before i did the offer. I dunno if that has happened to other employees but it has to me all the time with M1 discretion. I would suggest getting him the 8350 this time around or something though ahha.

Yeah M1 reason code needs to be used, but I thought it said in the M&P that we are supposed to drop the NE2 feature...........though I never do this......chalk one up to error, oops my bad, I tend to look the other way on somethings that benefit the customers. Ultimately they are the reason I have a job.

Yeah that is correct. I personally do not like that all upgrades except NE2 require it also. $20 Device inition fee = We need 9 billion to pay for the 700mhz license and 28.1 billion to buy alltel. I do make sure my reps mention it upfront ASAP with upgrades and if the customer objects I usually void it off. We are a low volume store so I do not have to do it a whole lot. Though if a customer is being a jerk, you better believe it they are gonna pay.

We got the big green stickers on the box that say 20 dollar handset exchange fee lol. That's on every phone box. I do customer care but I been in sales for the last week becuase we are short handed and I be sure to give a little speech on the upgrade fee and exchange fee only 2 of our reps actually remember to include the 20 dollar upgrade fee on non ne2 upgrades lol its a headache we void like crazy since we get in trouble if we discount it 100%

Sometimes. Inpulse phones are suppose to be active on prepay for 6 months like other have said, but....

Verzion had tons of backstock of Razrs and Jukes that werent selling, so they put them into prepay packaging to try to get rid of them. The ESN numbers on those phones still show up as a regular phone (not prepay). So if you find one of those you can activate it.

Your best bet is to go to Walmart and buy one. The ESN is on the outside of the box, so you dont have to open it to get that number. Call Verizon and have them do an ESN change for you and read that number off the outside of the box. If it goes through and can be activate, open up the box and turn on your new phone. If not, since you never opened the package, take it back to...

First off....get insurance, its $5 bucks a month and you save a ton of time/money especially if you ever lose or damage your device.

2nd, Im not sure where you live, but do a craigslists search for "verizon" and see if anyone has any used phones for sale. Just make sure you call into customer service and verify the esn before purchase.

good luck

Yeah, I know. My bad. I stopped the insurance for my kids (college/high school age) because they are supposed to be responsible enough to take care of their phones and I'm the evil parent who just really doesn't care if they have a cell phone since they don't pay for them... Fortunately my brother is loaning him his old LG8300 until we see if the Venus can "dry out." I'll end up buying it from him if the Venus is dead. And now my son loves the 8300 because it does everything the Venus did without the touchscreen lag.... 😲
Thanks for the info though...I do appreciate it.

you might also want to try the freezer. Remove the battery and put the phone in the freezer. I've heard several people say that works.

And remember, I know people are supposed to be responsible, but accidents do happen (be it kid or adult 🙂

Good Luck!!

the freezer is one of the only truly dry places you can put something.

if the phone F'd up already, the freezer should not hurt it, and I have read on this site and others that it does work for cell phones.

I think it works because the freezer can evaporate all the water out of each and every little crevass

On the freezer Chris...on the freezer. If you stick it in the freezer you damage the phone. If you stick it ontop of the freezer it draws the moisture out and works great...have had several people test it and it works. But no...don't put it in the freezer.

Stay with the LG-VX8300. It's the best phone that VZW ever had to offer next to the Motorola E815 and the Nokia 6255i.
