It's been a while since I've posted anything on these forums because I've been rather busy. As many of you know, there are a few new PDA devices coming out. Okay... so maybe "new" isn't the word for it.
January 27th will see the online launch of the Blackberry 8830 Red and the Blackberry 8130 Pink. Not new, but nonetheless there are probably people looking forward to them. The red 8830 is actually kinda nice, but I would still rather prefer the black one.
However, there is one new one (as my topic title suggests). As I've stated several times, and that you guys have even guessed, Verizon is getting the HTC Touch. The SKU for the phone is XV6900 and there are SKUs for the holster and other accessories already listed in the system....

Any information on the Samsung u940?
...
Well, even though this is a PDA topic, I guess I can still answer that =P The only information I have on the U940 is what every other website has been reporting.
You're looking at a Q1 release window (no price or release date set). I know someone who's testing it out, but I have yet to see what they've done with the interface, which is what I really care for.
...
Any word on the responsiveness of the touch screen? I've heard good and bad, but I think that's based on videos as opposed to actual use.
...
So far I haven't heard any bad feedback on it. I'll definitely share more when I get a chance to play around with it, but I unfortunately can't comment on it.
...
Any feedback would be appreciated. I'm holding out for that phone at the moment, and I'm curious whether or not it's worth the wait.
...
i played with the touch briefly tonight. Aside from it being all white it was quite impressive. You can do most major functions without even involving the windows mobile aspect. It took a little while to get the short hand "stoked" down, but once you play with it for a couple minutes its quite intuitive. It was very fast though, no delay when loading pictures at all. Unfortunately it wasn't active so I could test the internet.
...
I like the Touch (played with one through Sprint), but I'm not particularly interested in the PDAs. I can't afford the monthly access.
...
What is so great about the touch?
...
its much thinner than the other current verizon pda's (with the exception of the Q which is technically a smartphone). and it has a more accessible touch-gesture based interface (i think called touchFLO but i might be wrong). its a love it or hate it deal. it is much less dependent on the use of a stylus. It isn't an iphone, but has a couple similar controls (scrolling through pics by flicking them, etc).
...
Oh, ok. So is this considered a pda or no?
...
oh btw, the HTC rep said it should be out next monthish. They didn't want another debacle like the delay on the 6800
...
Have you heard anything about Verizon coming out with the Blackberry Curve?
I am very interested and would really like to see them come out with this phone. Any information would be great. (possible release date)
Thank you!!
...
I won't lie. That phone looks pretty good!
...
i heard that a new black berry is coming out this year. i also heard it was going to be a touch sreen? any word on that?
...
I think its actually white. 👀
...
Ewww even worse not for me, but at least is coming for those interested!
...
Yeah, I myself am torn. I'm getting tired of black and silver phones, but I'm not sure white is the answer.
Still, lots of VZW phones come out with alternate colors later on. Wouldn't be surprised if that happened here as well.
...
It's in Iphone White 🤣 🤣 🤣
...
Yeah the phone is definitely white. I now have officially used one... and I'm gonna be getting it =P The white isn't too bad. I'm pretty sure there's a white GSM variant out there... I think? Also the phone is now in Infomanager if you search xv6900 so it's coming real soon.
Anyways, yeah, the only thing I'm gonna miss is actually having a full keyboard but the phone more than makes up for it in size and features.
As for the comments on new Blackberry devices and others... of course there are new Blackberrys on the way; there always are.
The phones that I listed in here are all that I know right now. You'll know as soon as I do, though, if there's anything new.
...
hi BW
thank you for the update on the touch.have been wating for long to get my hands on this phone.
you say that we can see info abt the touch on info manager. could you tell me what that is or would you have any link for that.
...
Infomanager is internal an internal Verizon system. So, yeah, couldn't link you to it =P
...
YESSSSS!!! I'm sooo excited now!! FINALLY! NEW BBs!!!
...
The Blackberry 8830 Red will there be changes made to it for example will there be a built in camera in it??? b/c i kno the regular verzion doesn't have one
...
No, the only change on it is the color.
...
Hey BW, your post got me interested enough to register and post.
Any word if the Wifi capabilities have been retained in Verizon's version of the Touch? Also have you been able to try out web browsing? I've been waiting a long time for a Verizon phone that can handle displaying web pages in a tolerable way (still using a VX8100).
...
BW,
this may have already been asked, but did you hear any word on the BB curve coming out in Q1?
...
No information on the Curve coming to Verizon, yet.
...
rtxJan 24, 2008, 5:33 AM
LOL I wonder with VZW's love affair with disabling phone features if they will disable the Touch's touch feature 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣
...
thats a pretty cool lookin phone! Im sick of the htc slider PDAs, they are a little too thick for me.
Chris
...
Its about the same size as the touch. Cool looking form factor. I heard rumors that VZ may have it soon.
...
No idea on this one yet. I'll post information about it when I get it. It seems like a neat little device, but my money is definitely with the XV6900 right now.
...
heeey BloodiedWraith! nice to see you again!!
who are you?? the "I have to bleed confidential equipment information Santa Claus"?
🙄
...
Haha nope, just someone who doesn't believe in secrecy behind release dates on phones. There's no secrecy on the release dates of video games, movies, music, and anything else in the electronics industry... why hide the release dates on phones?

you obviously don't know anything about how COMPETITIVE businesses work, do you.
A) the wireless industry is extremely competitive, which is why release dates, service launches, service price changes, etc, are all kept under wraps. Are you implying that music artists are just as competitive by trying to outsell eachother?? 🤣
B) who are you to decide what should be kept confidential and what shouldn't??
Take just one business cl...

Some higher-ups came into our store last week and I caught one of them using what I swore had to have been an HTC Touch, so I can more or less confirm this as well.
...
Yes chances are one was probably using it. They are in testing phase. You should see the phone available next month/March the latest, barring any testing that yields in unacceptable results like the 6800 did (yes, the 6800 was delayed a lot because of ongoing problems with the bluetooth and other features - not VZW's fault there).
...
Any word if they kept the WiFi functionality?
...
For those asking about the Wifi, it looks like no, but it appears to have built in GPS. Don't quote me on that one, though. I will give an update when I'm 100% sure on it.
And because everyone loves release date information... I do not have an exact release date but all signs are actually pointing to last week of February/first week of March.
Reason being, there is an online training that is going up that has a completion date no later than 2/19, and that usually means the phone will be released within a week or two.
Enjoy guys.
...
"For those asking about the Wifi, it looks like no"
Agh! Foiled by Verizon again. Looks like I'll have to wait to see what the vx9100 or samsung u940 has in store for the WiFi.
...
Or the HTC S640(Iris)?
...
I like how it's automatically Verizon's fault. Sprint's doesn't have it either, and neither does Alltell.
...
Naturally Verizon's Fault, 😉
...
I actually played with the touch yesterday for about 10 minutes. The touch screen is very good. The screen clarity is awesome. The mobile 6 is nice. It will have a larger hard drive and will be able to support up to 32gb memory cards. the phone is schedule for late march, early april along with the curve.
...
The Q9C maybe coming the 2nd quarter along with possibly the treo 800w, 3rd quarter possibly the samsung blackjack along with 2 other global pda's.
...
As promised more information for you guys. I was spot on on the release target for the XV6900. I also have some more release information on other phones that people have been interested in, as well as some other devices.
PDA:
XV6900 Touch - Late Feb/Early March
Phone:
Samsung U940 - March
Motorola W755 - Spring
Aircard:
V750 - Late Spring/Early Summer
However, no prices yet. Will update again when I get the information.
...
What about the HTC S640. AKA Iris.
...
What I put was what I had. There is no mention of the Iris yet, or because I know it's going to be asked, the Curve.
...
What is your gut feeling on the Iris? When this year?
...
I personally have no gut feeling, because I've seen nothing on the Iris even coming to Verizon in the first place. As far as I'm aware, it is still a TELUS exclusive.
...
http://www.phonearena.com/htmls/Verizon-carrier-c_17 ... »http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2007/08/14/htc-iris-s6 ... »"It's been just under two months since getting a whiff of the forthcoming S640, and now it's time for US-based CDMA users to (officially) celebrate, as FCC documentation has finally outed the HTC Iris S640. The paperwork shows that the smartphone will indeed operate on CDMA850 / 1900 bands, include WiFi and Bluetooth, offer up EV-DO connectivity, and sport USB for syncing and charging. Additionally, the handset will reportedly tout a 2.4-inch 320 x 240 resolution LCD and a two-megapixel camera, and while it doesn't look like this one will be aimed at the elitists in the crowd, it should do q...

What is the W755? I thought all the Moto's were going away.

Boring. But thanks for the info.

Still waiting -- Could someone lite a fire under their A**es -- Come On -- How many phones have they put out since Jan 1 -- Now how many brand new phones since Jan 1 -- Now compare that to all the other companies
...
you cant release new phones every single freakin month. They come in waves. Verizon has a huge fall and holiday season with new phones. Did you really expect them to continue that every month for 2008?
Be patient and wait like everyone else. BW's release date info has been accurate so far, so I would imagine that the htc touch will be out soon.
Chris
btw...vzw has put out 4 new smartphones since 2008 began, not too bad in my opinion
...
Been a while since I've been able to post here. Yes, the XV6900 has missed it's original launch deadline. Why you ask? There was a problem that Verizon found with the original ROM, however a new one was issued last week and the phone is running smoothly. Expect to see it by Mid/Late March.
I played around with the phone for a while today, and I must say I love it. Also, I do have answers to two of the questions I keep seeing pop up:
A) No, there is no Wi-Fi.
B) It does not have GPS/VZNavigator out of the box; it will eventually have it, as will the XV6800.
Also, on the topic of PDAs, expect to see the Blackberry Curve between April and May, pending any delays.
Enjoy guys.
...
It's not a PDA, but any updated information on the Samsung u940 (Glyde)?
...
Targeted for Mid/Late March just like the XV6900. No real information as of yet really.
...
thanks for the great info on the xv6900. I'm hoping my original Q doesn't die before then. when you say it will eventually have GPS do you mean its built in but not activated yet? also any word if it will be offered in other colors?
thanks!
...
Yes you got it; the GPS is there - it shouldn't be long after the release of the phone for VZNavigator to show up.
And no, white is the only color to be offered for right now. As with the GSM variant, and giving our track record, it's probably pretty safe to assume there will be other colors but I'm actually quite partial to the white one.
...
yeah I like the white to...plus you know they have to differentiate it from the Sprint version!
Thanks for the info BW. Im still waiting on the curve, hopefully that april time frame is pretty accurate.
Chris
...
I'm looking forward to this phone more and more, too. I've pretty much given up hope on getting a good Smartphone/PDA with WiFi capabilities. I had the i760, but it was just too much for what I would use it for.
BW - Any word on price with a 2-year Re-up?
...
P4,
My guess based on previously phone releases, the price of the att curve, and the price of the vzw 8830...I think the curve will be priced between $149 and $200 with a 2 year deal. Prolly around $400 for the full retail price. With the curve on att priced at 99, I really dont think they can charge more than $200 fcr the phone.
wifi on a phone is cool, but unless you have internet like the iphone, I really don't think its that big of deal. The blackberry browser is okay, but wifi wouldn't really add that much for me personally
...
I was waiting to check out either the XV6900 or the (now-titled) Glyde. Now that more pics and specs from the Glyde were released yesterday, I'm looking forward to the 6900 more. Hey BW, any updated info on a release date? My friend just got an ATT Tilt and my itch to ugprade is getting stronger by the day
