Quick XV6800/Data Usage question

I made a thread about this question in the XV6800 thread, but responses have been thin.

Basically, I want to buy a XV6800 for the purpose of opening Word documents, browsing the internet via WIFI, and text messaging (although the texting is very limited in the amount I do). The Verizon salesman went on and on about how I had to have a data package because it sometimes draws from the Verizon network even if I think it's WIFI.

Someone in the other forum suggested I call verizon and have them shut off all data usage on my account so that doesn't happen, but will I still be able to send text and picture messages if I block all the data?

This is the only stumbling block keeping me from buying this phone, so I'm a little anxious to find ...

Sending Pix required at least pay per use internet.

Browsing internet via wifi does not charge internet use, as you are using someone elses access.

My suggestion, just do it, you have 30 days. Use the phone for a couple weeks, call customer care and see if your normal use occured any charges.

MMS is picture and video messages, right?

It's a shame there's no way to just block the internet and still be able to recieve them, you would think there would be a way, but I guess whatever motivates you to buy a data plan.

If I do decide to get this phone and not block my data usage, does the verizon site tell me how much data I'm being charged for the month? I know it keeps track of how many minutes you use and how many texts I send, does it also show you an amount in kb that you will be charged?

I figure I may try it for the 30 days, but I'd like to keep an accurate watch over how much more I'd be charged so I can decide if it's worth it.

You can dial #3282(#data) from the phone to get your data use, it will show message use and KB use.
Not sure if there is a spot on the website to check.
