perfomed on a VX 8300 but most likely will jwork with any VZW standard UI:

1. Go to VZW.com and preview ringtones or play any song from anywhere.

2. on the phone: Get It Now-> Get Tunes & Tones-> My Sounds-> Record New. Play the music while simultaneously pressing the record button.

3. Send-> to your phone number. It will be recived as an SMS message.

4. Click save as ringtone.

5. forward SMS to friends.

It would be interesting to see how that turns out. Most carriers bill for the ringtone at step 4.

nope. if it comes via mms they can't charge for it. at&t doesn't, verizon doesn't, t-mobile doesn't and sprint doesn't ...

I've recorded a few different ones. Some actually sound real good, some sound like crap. But if you change the volume of the sound, play with the distance the mic is from the speakers, etc you may find a way that it works. I've got some good sounding ringtones.

Yes, that's true on the copyrighted sounds. How about the gals in the shower who can't make their singing (a ringtone) because Verizon won't allow that?

"User generated content" was the first allowed media movement. Now it is "Non-Copyrighted" file transfer.

The phones don't have the first darn clue how to differentiate between them.

i don't know why verizon is like that. they don't let use what's on your own memory card. i have the env and the lg phones that at&t sells let you use whatever the crap you want. since verizon has unlimited message packages it seems pointless to nickle and dime customers by making them send via mms. oh well.

Actually. Verizon has been good lately. Verizon has the following file travsfers for LG Voyager, 9900 and the same for Motorola:

Bluetooth®
Profiles: headset, hands–free, dial–up networking, advanced audio distribution (stereo), phone book access, object push for vCard and vCalendar, file transfer, human interface, basic imaging for sending/printing non–protected images
to a compatible device & basic print.

Yes. I can transfer any type of media using the OBEX with a PC, and any type of media using the Send Bluetooth command, except for ringtones.

You can transfer a 5MB video clip in about a minute or two.

If you forward it as an MMS then there's no link necessary.

I've found that funformobile.com has one of the best setups for making your own ringtones. The site gives you directions how to download wavepad, cut your own songs (to get the part you want), equalize and amplify the tone, and upload it to your phone. All of it is completely free, and works with virtually any VZW phone. Sends the tones as a MMS message. Just choose save as ringtone and off you go.

This is funny. Why don't you guys just rename the the file that is created in "Temporary Internet Files" and then push that file to the phone?
