Upgrade Policy

I'm sure this has been discussed numerous times, but I'm going to bring it up again. What exactly is the upgrade policy at Verizon. I understand that you can't use the $100 credit that you get with the New Every 2 program unless you wait until your contract is up, but if you're willing to pay the regular price that they offer the phone for, how long do you have to wait? If anyone could let me know that'd be great!

Taken directly off the New every two hand out... "Sign up for and maintain two years of service on a digital plan of $34.99 or higher to qualify for a free phone (up to $100 value), or receive $100 toward the purchase of a more expensive phone with a 2 year renewal"

Customers qualify for this at the 22 month mark. I have seen people qualify for "early" upgrades(anytime before the 22 month)but the $100 will NOT apply for anything before that.

If you're willing to pay full retail, you can buy a phone anytime.

What city and state is your cell phone # based out of?

A plain upgrade (one w/ the prices on vzw.com), not new every two, has certain requirments that need to be met and those requirements are different depending on where your # is based out of.

However, like walking stated you can purchase a phone at full retail whenever you want- no requirements need to be met for that

Here it goes for the upgrade....

1) Early upgrade states you can upgrade your phone after 12 months on a 2 yr and 10 months on a 1 yr contract if there is something wrong with your current phone. You have to sign into a price plan 49.99 or higher and depending on whether you sign a 1 or 2 yr contract, that is the type of pricing discount you will get on the phone of your choice plus any rebates that are available.

2) NEWE2 ~ This is available for customer's that have signed up for service after may of 2000. after you complete 22 months of your 24 month contract, you will be eligable to sign another 2 yrs. with VZW and on top of the rebates and pricing promotional discounts you get , you will be offered an additional up to 100....

That is good info, there is one other thing I think you should disclose-->The area in which you work. Statement #1 is different in different areas, so by adding a simple disclosure it would not confuse a customer or possibly misinform a customer who lives in the west.

Why would a customer in the area your from sign up for a 1 yr contract? If one can upgrade every 12 months then it wouldn't be very smart to sign a 1 year contract

also one of the reasons why people sign a 2 year is becasu there is a cheaper activation fee and the phone is cheaper with a 2 year then a 1 year.

I know that some people have something against two year contracts, but I don't. I couldn't be happier with Verizon service, even though I know I am receiving slightly fewer minutes each month for my money than would be the case with other carriers. I know that the chances of getting a good connection virtually anywhere I go are better with Verizon and I've never had anything but the most satisfactory experiences anytime I've had to use Verizon's customer service. Why would I want to change carriers?

I can tell you why I would NOT sign a 2 year contract. Every year cell carriers (In my opinion) are getting better. That is better service, better phones, better coverage and better customer service.
If you are with a carrier that starts to go bad, a year is a lot shorter, and those ETF's are a pain.

If Verizon goes bad, I'll worry about it then. In such an eventuality, it isn't the end of the world to pay the $135 early termination fee. Meanwhile, I'm content to pocket the savings that accrue from entering into two year contracts, believing that Verizon is likely to remain quite competitive for the forseeable future.
