What you really should be asking is "why did it take the manufacturer a year to fix al the bugs VZW kept kicking this phone back for. This phone failed testing repeatedly. THAT's why it's over a year old.

because its still current. WM 6.0 Prof, touchscreen full qwerty etc. its not outdated because no pdas have anything better.

The 6800 will have the new wm6. It is very similar to the I760. The difference between the 6700 and the 6800 is there are new microsoft office features like adobe reader. I have been playing with the 6800 for about an hour today. It is light, not heavy like the 6700. Very good screen, brighter and clearer than the 6700. Solid camera. The button layout is ok, trying to adjust to using the thumbwheel.

yea i ordered it too. suprising as an employee i can order a phone before its available in the store...usually we have to wait like at least a month.
