why are there no comprehensive online reviews for this phone? does anyone have any opinions on it? phone wise (call quality, speakerphone quality) how does it compare to the lg 8700? i love lg's, but the moto is cheaper and seems (from what i can tell) to be comparable in size and call function...am i wrong?

so i got one from my vzw store the other day....they had to get it from the back and when they brought it out, the battery was already in it . i am saying this because i wonder if it was the showroom phone before...how long does the battery realistically work with bluetooth on? even with bluetooth on for less than 30 min, with maybe an hour of regular talk time, my battery is down to one bar at the end of the day. did they give me a used battery or is this what i should expect? thanks!

You got shammed. My battery in my W385 has been conditioned properly (3 complete discharges, 3 complete charges) and I get about 3 days of usuage with BT always, talking for maybe 1/2 hour to an hour each d...

I agree with T-Max... I just got this phone yesterday and it rocks. The call quality is excellent, the fit and finish is spot on, Bluetooth is excellent and the ui is fast.

The only thing that bites is the screen is low res and you can't change the themes. Those are minor considering that if you are looking for a really good PHONE, look no further.

This is the 1st Motorola that we have not had ANY returns on. In addition I don't feel bad when selling this model because I do know that the customer will not be back like they would if they bought the razr/krazr!!

He loves doing that...so we all have to bow down to his "insider info"

If you have info--share it. If not, then why even mention it?

I got respect for tmax, and he always has good stuff, but I really it when people put out teasers.

i have a 385 and a 8700. The 8700 looks nicer, feels nicer and comes loaded with more stuff(vcast, music player, memory card slot, evdo, 2mp camera, video, blah, blah blah)

Now with that out of the way the call clarity is every bit as good as my 8700, the 385 also has a better battery life and way louder speakerphone/ringer.

If you want a high end flashy phone with a huge display the 8700 kicks ass, If you just want something built well with good PHONE features the 385 is really nice

See I didn't like the 8700 in person. And I know some people with them and once the novelty wears away, they say its just meh.

I'm not spending 200 bucks on 'meh'.

Guys

My good old ISP ( Email provider ) namecheap.com has totally destroyed me again.. I have no email for 2 days and I can't believe I stayed with them after they had me without email for 4 days in June.. I should have left then..

My good news comment was about the V9M.. I would have told you guys more but I have been working 20 hour days..

My pals at VZW seems to think it will be out before the best buy 9/2 date.. I sure hope so and I pray that it has some relavancy to the W385 as far as feel and build and quality.

This freaking W385 is a serious work horse. I beat it up all day and take it in and out of the black belt clip about seriously , 200 times a day and it is still looking new. That rubberized finish is nuts.

I wish...

I guess I'll find out soon enough, just got my 385 today, so far I like it but that's just having it active for a couple hours & playing around with it a bit.
The real test will be on my drive to work later today & see how it works through a fringe area I drive through.

I am really considering getting the w385 but I have to use my phone alot in a fringe area so it would be super helpful if you post your findings about how it works out for you today in the fringe. Thanks! 🙂

So far so good, I talked right through a area tonight where my old 815 or my daughters chocolate would drop the call 9 out of 10 times. It didn't even break up any that I could tell. 😁
I'll try again tomorrow during day light hours, for whatever reason sometimes days are worse. 😕
I'll post my test results tomorrow (Saturday) afternoon/evening. 😉

Thank you for the info. I have been through several phones in the last couple months trying to find one that has as good or better reception than my Moto v325....I think I will take the plunge and order the w385!

Sorry, had a bad day at work & just plain forgot to try it out in the fringe area during the daylight.
Looks like this thread will be dying soon so I'll post results on the 385 forum here when I try it.
I know I should be posting this in the reviews, but so far.

Likes....
rubberized coating, should hold up well.
keys
reception (so far)
outside display (I like that it don't have to be lit to plainly see it)

dislikes....
Small inside screen.

I've been in Penna for the last 3 weeks, 1 for Eagles TC and 2 for the Pennsic War.

Traveling on the PA Turnpike can be hell, especially between mile markers 301 and 280 and then 230 through 160. The Moto kept a signal the entire time except for known deadspots, like driving through mountains.

I have been really impressed with call quality so far. The phone has kept a signal where others just wash out then drop. Don't get me wrong, I could tell the signal was weak but the call never dropped.

With Rich being in Philly, he can also attest to the poor cell coverage on the PA Turnpike as well with Spring and VZW. I don't know how Cingular faires...

Spot on. I got this because I was sick of having such a big phone in my pocket (env) and said env was buggier than hell in terms of UI always crashing. I added another line and got this for free. This phone really reminds me of the LG VX4400/VX4500. The features you need in a really good phone. Although LG's have never held up for over a year... call quality and battery life seems to really degredate over time.
