HELP

I was just at a Verizon store going to purchase the new Blackberry 8830. I don't need the internet and wanted that phone more for the organization and to text message. They would not sell it to me without the data package. Not even if I kept it for a month and then cancelled it. Does anyone know what this is? I had a motorola Q and had no data package. I really want to get the phone so any suggestions or help would be appreciated.

They are just giving you BS!! They want to make commission off of the sale! You CAN get pda pay as you go $0. Ask to speak with a supervisor or manager!!! I am an indirect agent so I know this to be 100% accurate!

as far as i know you cannot do this on a blackeberry, I have never been able to get one of those to activate without a package. It will work on all others, just not BB.

That is correct you have to have a data plan on a bb. Other pda's it can be pay per KB

your an indirect agent for a reason

the sales rep is right. a blackberry requires data to be utilized, so one can not sell you a Blackberry without the data package and the device would be useless if you didnt have data on it.

You can not do that on the blackberry! The way it is designed you will alwys being connecting, you must have the 10mb package at a minimum. If you refuse that stuff then you have to get a pda/windows running device where you can pay per kb

RIM and Verizon have a contractual agreement that states each Blackberry device must be activated with a data plan, unlimited or 10MB, but not with a pay as you go type data package.

So there is no possible way at all. Not even activating it and then switching things around?

If you do a search in this forum you find that this question has come up several times before and that no one has been able to do what you want. It appears that Verizon's systems will not allow a Blackberry to be activated without a data package and will not allow a data package to be removed.

I sold Nextel and this is the same. ONCE AGAIN FOLKS!

Blackberries are constantly "talking" with the network through data packets. If you do not have some sort of data plan with a Blackberry you would incurr HUGE data charges. This is NOT unique to Verizon, but is unique to Blackberry because of the phone's design.

Class dismissed.

it can be done. add the data feature and remove it same day in the store or through cust care. I sold one to my buddy last week. only thing is why would u want a blackberry without the data?

wrong warrior

if you sold one to your freind you might want to have him return it because it wont be working once he deactivates the data package and he will probably get mad at you for your lack of product knowledge.

do any trainings on this device before? if so....pay attention next time.

It is true it does need to be activated with a data feature but you CAN remove it after initial setup, I know of many such instances

As far as I know, you can't have a BB without the data package on it. But you do have 15 days where you can return or exchange the phone for a different one. You might as well try it.

No, actually by removing the National Access feature and taking off the pay as you go, it does not require a huge data bill. As I said... I've done it, no problems. I'm sure you have been told the same thing we were, you have to add the data package because it "talks" to the network. Truth is, you don't have to add it and it can be removed. Half the reps just don't know how to do it. I use a slightly different billing system and it is not a problem. However, I do pose the question, why would you get a blackberry if you don't want the data? You would lose the funcationality of the device and Blackberry OS IMO sucks

So the RIM rep who, I would think, would know RIM jobs better then anyone, is wrong? And the data technitians on both VZW and Nextel were wrong? Who is getting the RIM job now?

If a rep in store or in cs removes the data package they should not. In the system it is posable to be done but should not. If your friend or customer calls to customer service and talks to a person that really knows what is going on they will require him to add the data package back, if they wanted to be a poo head about it they could charge back the data pack. If you don't want to pay at least the 24.99 10meg pack don't get a rim device. Go with a pda or better yet a handset and save yourself the trouble.

Why do customers want PDA's and Blackberries and not want the data package? If you want and organizer with a calendar, then go buy one that's not a phone. A PDA without the data feature is like driving a sports car around in a circle. You own a bunch of power you'll never use. 🙄

What if the person does not need a data package? I have several Co-Workers who bought them for the simple reason that they did not want to carry more than 3 devices around with them. It is for the simple reason of being simplistic. And for the question about the sports car in the post above. I drive a Jaguar XJR, I bought the car b/c I wanted to. I really dont think that I am going to go 180mph in it or utilize 400 and somthin horsepower. I just bought it because I can and no other reason.
