A customer brought an old phone into my store to be activated on her boyfriends account. The phone was a verizon phone but it had been easy pay, she just hadnt used it in a long time. I reverted to factory specs and tried to activate it, but it said I couldnt.
I called customer service and they said that the phone had an MEID instead of an ESN and therefore couldnt be actiavted on anything by an easy pay account. This didnt make any sense to me, but he wouldnt explain it. Is this true and is there a way around it? She loves her phone and doesnt want any other phone we have.
...
MEID is supposed to be the replacement for the ESN since ESNs are being exhausted.
...
that doesnt make sense at all. it might still be activated on a prepay accont. mabe call back and get someone different so you actually get an answer. i reall cant think whyit wouldnt work... let us know!
...
Most LGs use MEID's instead of ESN numbers, if you notice they all start off with A000000 (six zeros).
Eventually all phones will go this route because all the ESN numbers will be used up, this will open another way to process phone activations.
She was 100% completely off base.

yeah, i was pretty sure she was lying to me, but you'd think the rep could be trusted... Let me tell you all what I went through to finally get through that ordeal...
I called in again and told them to activate the phone on the account, but the next guy still said they couldnt activate a prepay phone on a new account and recommended she buy a new one... then he cancelled the new line. I was tired of trying to get them to help me directly, so I called back and told my customer to tell them to cancel her prepaid account, which the rep said was still active (this way I should be able to just reset the phone to factory specs and add it myself). The rep said they couldnt and that she put a "note" on the file so it would expire in 3 months... M...

If the original phone was still active on prepay then that is why you originally had problems.
If they were going from prepay to postpay and keeping the phone why didn't you do a prepay conversion in EROES?
...
Also, remember the whole issue when MEID's first came out with them getting locked in the switch? But yes, if the phone is active on a prepaid account, you cannot use the phone until the prepay is disconnected. Any prepay rep would be willing to disconnect the line. If they are wanting to keep their prepaid number, just do a new line while selecting to transfer that number. The MEID would just follow and it all should work.

When the MEIDs first started popping up, e*ROES didn't recognize them. That was a pain in the ass.

Depends on how long the phone was on EasyPay. Can't buy a phone off the shelf and activate onto a Monthly service...won't let ya.
The customer service rep was dumb.
...
Actually EasyPay and contract phones are exactly the same. You can't activate an Inpulse phone on EasyPay or a contract.
...
just kind of curious...why would you allow someone other than the account holder to activate a new line of service? or was the boyfriend there? ok maybe its a dumb question but my curiosity gets the best of me sometimes
...
I thought she was activating the old phone to an existing phone number...
...
ok so maybe i'm seeing things...better get a bit more sleep

She was not wrong. Some phones were made specifically for pre-pay accounts. If you look at the ESN/MEID and it has a P before or after, it is one of those phones.
That's the reason if you tried to do it yourself in eRoes it was denied.
...
I have never seen a phone made specifically for EasyPay but I've seen plenty for INpulse if that's what you're talking about.
