iPhone Doesn't Do Video; ATT's Network and EDGE Slammed
Both David Pogue (New York Times) and Walt Mossberg (Wall Street Journal) confirm that the iPhone doesn't record video. A really strange choice by Apple on a $600 phone. ☹️
Also, both reviewers dissed how slow ATT's EDGE network was, and both had criticisms of ATT's network in general. Mossberg didn't like that the iPhone was available for only one carrier, saying essentially that if you're not in an area with good ATT coverage, it doesn't matter how cool the iPhone is (obviously); while Pogue pretty much body-slammed the ATT network:

It isn't that bad. In fact, there's some stuff it does way better than anything else out there, like ease of use and its software in general.
Once its 3G and does video and the other kinks are worked out, it should be pretty kickass. The only thing holding it back then will be the ATT network, like both reviewers mentioned.

I agree thats stpid that its only avaliable from one network! I live in South Dakota and we dont even have att so what good does it do for us!!?!?!? NOTHING!

Honestly, I'm glad we're not getting it. I don't want to deal with the people that get pissy when you tell them it's $600 or the people that don't have wifi access where they want to use it, etc etc.

You're going to have to wait five years Shock, cuz its my bet that ATT will still suck ass then. Straight up though it seems like it will take an act of God to get their network worthwhile.

Not as much as I thought I would.
I think its pretty cool (I'm an Apple fan in general) and it does some things better than most any other phone (like web browsing)... but, there's just too many omissions in this intial release (video, 3G, MMS, voice dial) for me to really wanna drop $600 on one. 😡
Also, ATT/Cingular's network... still not good, and still lagging on 3G coverage. They need more time to bring it up to par.
So, to put it short n' sweet... I'm not seriously considering iPhone 1.0 . I may consider iPhone 2.0, if they improve it and ATT's network gets better.
We'll see what next year brings.

Sounds good bro. I'm not ditching my service with Verizon, but I am going to add a line on my dads ATT service and try it out.. I'm a big apple fan so I "have" to try it out. We'll see how it goes.
I agree that the smart thing to do it to wait it out for the 2nd gen. Iphone with 3G, so if you have enough will power to do that, more power to ya!
