Mot V265 versus Audiovox 9900?

I qualify for NE2 and am debating between the v265 and Audiovox 8910/9900. The attractions for me to the v265 are the price (now that it is has been revealed), the GPS capability (direction finding, beyond E911), and the camera. I've read at least one post saying the camera doesn't work so well. How about the GPS location feature? How does that actually work? Does it require a data subscription? Is it fast? I'm a big Mot fan and would like to stay with it. I also have the 270c and 2868 accessories, so presuming the v265 maintains at least the 270c line (charging connectors) I'll be ok.

If neither the GPS nor camera are that great, I'll likely go with the Audiovox and test it, as I've heard its camera is decent.

I have read a bit about ...

I own a 9900.
Based solely on the specs the differences that stand out for me are these:

screen- 9900 screen is much bigger,
colors- 9900 supports more colors,
standby time- 9900 claims almost 3x more that the V265
video- 9900 yes, v265 no,
flash- 9900 yes, v265 no,

The v265 does beat the 9900 on some other specs such as number of polyphonic ring tones and included software. I'd look at both of them and compare their GUI's, but just on the gee whiz factor, the 9900 would win imho. 🙂

I've seen both, and both have their pluses. I like Motorola's consistency with the menu system and their newer features like Digit Dial and Name Dial. I'm not familiar with the GPS service it has but haven't had time to play with it. I was, however, a little disappointed by the relatively small screen size.

As far as camera... no cell phone will replace my digital camera. I use the camera in my phone as a convenience for those happenstance moments.

I'm a Motorola fan from way back - I loved my StarTacs, and I still have a Timeport that I use pretty frequently. That being said, the QA issues that Moto has had recently (T720/730, V710, V600, etc.) have given me pause. I'd definitely go with the Audiovox. It's a quality handset. It feels good in the hand, and it appears to work properly, unlike the T720 I put up with for nearly a year.

I had a 9900, but one thing I noticed about the high-color screen: most of the menus never seemed to use more than 256 colors, but some did. I find it odd, and sloppy, that I'd see one menus with great colors, and another menu that would have the low-color look to it. Not deal-breaking, just disappointing. 😕

Really? I have the 9900 too, and to me all the menus have the same resolution.

Not resolution, color depth. It seemed to me to make the unit look like a less quality device. Bummer, because I liked everything else about it.
