VZW phone with absolute best reception?

My trusty Nokia 6256i is starting to flake out and I'm bummed. It's big, it's clunky, it's ugly, it has a lot of features I don't use, and it has the best reception I've ever seen or heard of. It drags in signals where nothing else does.

I want a phone with superb cell reception, 'cause I've been spoiled. I don't care about games, FM radios, MP3 players, video-on-demand, or surfing the web. … I want a phone that I can (almost) always make calls on. There are a couple of other features I'll take if I can get 'em - voice dialing, backing up my contact list, copying pictures to a PC, Bluetooth - but I'll give them all up if I can get a signal when I need to.

There's a bewildering variety of phones available on VZW's website... which cur...

If you like your nokia so much I would get another one off of ebay. I didn't think that phone was to big and clunky. Also if you think its ugly I would just buy another face plate for it. As for a new phone lg8300 hands down is one of the best.

If you are indeed getting one off of ebay get the 6236i. That has great reception! Or for a new phone I would definately get the 8300! it is the best, even though i have a sliver!

You aren't wrong. I had a 6256i, and the digital reception was great. And I did use the analog a couple of times too... came in handy in Southern Oregon (in a small town where the VZW coverage map says you're just barely in digital coverage, but you're really not ☹️ ).

Too bad the stupid phone doesn't last much more than a year before it gives up the ghost. Nokia should be kicked in the crotch for making a phone that works so well and lasts so poor...

The Migo! Hands down the best with those two cute antennae. Of course it's designed for five year olds and you can't get it anymore.

Otherwise, I love the lg8300 for just all around best phone. That and the EnV, but it's a fair bit more pricey, bulky and specialized. The Mot 325(i) survived a rather annoyingly active five year old I know for a bit over a year, and kept a good signal. I think he finally lost it.

Avoid the Krazr. It's pretty, but glitchy. My daughter loves it, but she doesn't have high expectations or use her phone much. It's shiny, and trendy and that's all that matters in her mind.

Even though it was built by Pantech, the Nokia 6315i was one of the best phones I ever used on Verizon before I ended up leaving them this past June 10th. (I needed a local Charlottesville, VA number after two and a half years, and they couldn't give me one because they don't have service in this market...darn it!) Never dropped calls, digital only, Bluetooth enabled...I, too, am only interested in verbal communication and almost none of that other stuff, either. The only thing is, because Pantech built it, I would think that even average use will destroy the phone after a while. I've become a RAZR fan over the last 18 months, and I'm using a V3m on my new carrier, Alltel, as I used a V3c on Verizon until it got dropped and I didn't feel...

If you really want THE BEST reception go with the Motorola E-815.

I just received one from eBay in the mail for $88 shipped. I also have the EnV. In comparison the E-815 will get 3 bars in my house while my EnV only gets 1.

Many of my friends have the 8300 and it is a great phone but the E-815 hands down gets better reception. I can't speak for the 325i cause i don't have that phone but i imagine it would be similar to the E-815 only with the verizon UI.

O & the E-815 has ALOT of features considering its an old phone + NO VERIZON UI!!! 😎

I had a customer that bought a 325i from me because she lived in a place that was extrememly hard to get reception, her husband got the 8600 because he didnt need it at home much, she returned it three days later and got an 8600 because his would work in the house and hers would not.

I checked reviews on Amazon... looks like great reception is the only good thing about the Moto 325i, and I hate bad UI, so will probably go with the 8300.

Thanks for all the replies!

Dear GreyHairedKid,

I also have the Nokia 6256i and lately my BlueTooth earbud isn't working that great; either that or my Nokia isn't working that great and the BlueTooth is simply reflecting that.

My reasons for getting this phone were two:

(1) Many many people at that time were telling me that Nokia was the best, most solid, most reliable phone.

(2) The 6256i had a BlueTooth OBEX profile that was NOT disabled, meaning I could transfer photo files from phone to my iMac wirelessly for free while my friends were having to use the Verizon Picture Page (at a price).

I think that even when you know that you have a good phone or a good brand, after a while you want to try other brands or models, especially when VZW offers free or ...
