SIM Card for BBerry 8830
Im being told 2 diff. things...they guy at vzw store told me it takes max 2GB micro sd card and the person over the phone told me it takes 4GB...
can someone please tell me what the max memory card 8830 is capable of? thanks

If it's like the GSM version, it'll be a 4 gig max. As for higher, it may or may not depending on those cards when they come out.

funny thing is vzw doesn't even sell the 4gb card. Although it has GSM capabilities it is actually running on CDMA therefore there is no sim card. even if i did have one it'd b useless

The 8830 DOES take a SIM card. It is a world phone that operates on CDMA in the US, but is also compatible for GSM roaming using a Vodaphone SIM. From what I have been told, the GSM portion is not able to be unlocked, and because Vodaphone is Vzw's parent company you can only use Vodaphone, and pay exorbanant roaming rates.
The one thing that I have not figured out, is where do you get the SIM card from? We have one in stock, but it does not have the SIM in the box. We have already lost one sale on it because it was not included.

The way it works for us is when a customer goes over seas, they get a prepaid SIM with the carrier they choose to use. If it's locked to vodaphone, they'd have to contact vodaphone when they arrive at their destination. They might be able to sell service online and mail the SIM to the customer, but that's up to the carrier.

There is a seperate international roaming pack that is given with the phone when the customer signs up for an international option. Check info manager to get the sku.

The 8830 will take a 4 GB SD card and wok just fine. I can assure you that you will get conflicting answers from RIM...we did. We tested it and it worked. 8GB is next in line.
As far as SIM card the BB can use a SIM card which you purchase from a store or telesales. It's $29.99 unless you sign up for global BB data and then it's free. It goes in right next to the SD card and PLEASE remove the battery before trying to put it in. The SIM card will allow you to roam on different carrier networks outside of the US. It's not exclusive to vodafone and the prices are actually competitive with other carriers. No you cannot unlock it and use any SIM card in it. I can't think of anything else but if you have any other questions ask.

tech15, that is 4GB Micro SD card, not just SD card, correct? where did you get the 4GB Micro SD card? i was told nobody has them til the fall.

Actually I just noticed that the 4GB MicroSD card only works with the LG VX8700, VX9400, and enV. So maybe this one will not work with the 8830.
