Always go tri-mode.

I highly doubt he will be traveling into the few parts of the country that are analog only, and the only time the trimode is going to work better is in the event he is in a place with only PCS and analog as the analog will get into buildings a little better, but chances are the call quality would be so bad he would probably rather just not have a signal 😛
Anyways the analog network is being shut down in feb 08, so it doesnt have much time left on it.

If you're looking for a LG flip phone, the VX5300 is your best bet for good reception.

"Analog systems will be shutdown on February 18, 2008, so it will be of no use."
It will be interesting to see how Verizon handles all of the pre-digital OnStar equipped vehicles that are still on the road and only use analog. Even if just from a public relations point of view.

Analog may be out soon but doesn't the tri-mode phone have 6/10ths of a watt vrs. The 2/10ths that the digital only phone has
