Japanese market phones

I have been to a site that claims to sell Japanese market phones by Motorola and claims that they are compatible with Verizon. There are some pretty amazing phones on this site...expensive but awfully cool. Can they really be activated by Verizon in the USA? Here is the link:

Would you be willing to lay out a thousand or more bucks only to find that when you try to activate it, Verizon tells you that they can't or won't?
