looking up someon's account randomly?

Ok, heres whats up and i am asking for real help please.. so someone i know calls me and says "dude you need to pay your phone bill, i pulled up your account today and your passed due". seriously, were not even that close, were acquaintences who know each other through other people. so it wasextremely strange getting this call and him telling me that when i didnt even know he knew i had verizon. this scared me and i admit that i do feel weirded out...

Does a rep have the power to switch things up on my account without me asking? (no, hes not a manager, just a costumer service rep at one of the retail stores).

It could be deemed account maintenance, him calling you to tell you isn't allowed. They have the power to switch things, but are absolutely not to do so. Last time I had Verizon every time we changed something it would send me a text message and a letter in the mail stating what changed,

I would think its rude someone to call and say hey you gotta pay your bill man. What gives them the right to do that. I understand if he is getting fired if he losing one more account but this isnt t-moblie so he shouldnt worry. Did you ask him why he called about that. He should mind his own business

Sorry Turbo, but I find little that is coherent in the paragraph you wrote. What does being t-mobile have to do with anything? The OP mentioned nothing about T-mobile. Not to mention looking up accounts fraudently is cause for termination for all wireless companies and likely across the corporate spectrum is cause for remnoval as well. Privacy is well perhaps the number 1 concern when regar...

The basic answer is yes, he can switch things without you asking. In other words, he has the ability...but not the permission or authority. To make changes to an account the account is supposed to be verified....in other words you are actually "authorizing" access to the account by supplying pertinent information. But in essence, the rep can access any account (any "regular" account, not employees, not other special accounts)and look through it. But it is a big violation of the company ethics policy to do it.

Now what are you gonna do? If it's not that big a deal, just tell the guy to stay out of your account. If you really have a problem with it (as I would) you should contact Verizon through the Customer Care number and ask for Co...

If you really want something done and be sure this guy gets fired, you want to figure out what authority outside of Verizon you can complain to in the name of privacy violations, and cc: Verizon Corporate Security on that complaint.

This limits the persons' manager or Verizon as a whole, ability to protect an "outstanding or over performing employee" who just exercised some bad judgement.

well seriously, i was offended and pissed, but i dont think ill take any action, but i was pissed to the point where i would switch carriers, if verizon is the only carrier that has the ability to have your information pulled up as easy as mine did. i wish every account had a password, or something so reps couldnt look your account up unless you give them your password

But that's what reps do...look at accounts all day long...

If you're that miffed, contact Corporate Office in NJ and get someone there's attention.

It's not right and unless you do something about it, it will happen to others.

If you knew you weren't really after the guys head, why would you ask this question?

Most companies where there is a billing system, any w/ access can pull up accounts if they know a number, so it's not just Verizon, the fact that this A$$ was stupid enough to call someone he knew about being late on your payment is over the edge.
