Which features does Verizon block?

My contract is up, so I am shopping for a new phone (although so far I haven't found one that I like better than my current one ☚ī¸ ). I've heard a lot in the past about Verizon blocking certain features, and I was wondering if they still do that, and which features they block. 😕

Is there any way to unblock those features? And are there any carriers that don't do that?

Bluetooth OBEX (object exchange): You can't send pictures, videos and music via bluetooth (except for the 700p and the Q).

You have to buy ringtones from them, they give you voice recording capabilities, and music playing capabilities, but they won't let you convert these to tones without hacking the phone?

what phone do you currently have? Some phones have certain bluetoth restricitons so you cannot transfer some files through bluetooth. Others will block you from sending ringtones or creating your own without some work. But there are phones out that can receive ringtones through mms no problem and will allow transfer of certain files through bluetooth like pictures. So If you let us know what kinda of phone you have we can give you a recomendation, also it would be nice to know what features you need not to be blocked. Your first question was just to broad and you are going to get a million different answers.

Right now I have a phone that does not have bluetooth, but I am shopping for a new phone, which is why I was wondering. I know I would like to be able to transfer pictures that I take with my phone and such. The ringtones would be nice, but that isn't a dealbreaker for me.

Right now I have been looking at the new KRZR, the LG8600, and I am waiting for the RAZR maxx Ve... I haven't found much of anything else.

Thanks for your help!

Maxx has Full Stack Bluetooth except for music and ringtones. You'll need a cable for transferring those.

the 8600 is a really nice phone, much better than the current moto offerings. The 8600 will allow you to transfer pix through bluetooth, ringtones you can send as a pix mesage, so no biggie there. The only downfall of that phone is the speakerphone, it is pretty sad. The camera is ok but not the best, but the camera on the motos suck to so between those phones that wuldn't be a deciding factor. The max is supposed to have the same profiles unlocked as the 8600, it SHOULD have an excellent camera and mto speakerphones are usually pretty good, but the lg flash ui is nice.
