ok, can someone please explain to me....

the difference between cingular and verizon's technologies? also, if you can be honest.....are they basically as good as each other with call coverage? they claim to have more towers etc... of course i know they are sales people so i was hoping from an honest answer from you guys.....thanks!

The difference other than coverage is GSM vs. CDMA.

GSM is used in most of the world including europe.

while CDMA is primarely used in the U.S. and other countries such as China.

number of towers? doesn't really matter as long as it covers where you live and call

Actually, what you described isn't really the "diference" between the two technologies...just where they're used.

They are two different technologies. Different data transmission "styles". There are folks here and MANY MANY posts that will defend and detract each of them.

The way I describe it to customers is "It's similar to PC vs. Mac. Both do the same thing, but do it differently. Try and keep it as simple as possible. As to which one is better, well I pay my mortgage by selling CDMA, but have sold GSM as well.

Now the real crux is you last sentence. As long as it works where you need it, then either is good, IMHO.

I don't care about the technology, but I use CDMA because Cingular sucks CS wise and T-Mobile has bad coverage. Nothing against GSM (actually I like the idea of SIM cards) but I like CDMA carriers better.

Dude...you've gotta use GSM because the Razr MAxx is gonna be CDMA.
