VZW questionable billing practices

Has anyone else had an experience like this, and does this seem legit:

I mis-placed my bill and didn't send my monthly payment until the very day it was due (thinking the check would arrive in a few days). Three days later, VZW called and asked about my payment. I said I had just paid it and they should get it soon. I asked if there might be any issues or service interruptions and she said, "No."

(I checked my bank, and that day the check was cashed and the funds withdrawn from my account.)

The next day my phone was disconnected. I called them up and asked what the deal was. She said my phone was shut off due to lack of payment. I mentioned that they had received AND CASHED my check, but she said it takes them up to 10 days ...

If they cashed your check...to me that means they "processed" it. At the time your check was cashed, your account to have been brought up to-date.

Call Verizon and ask to talk to a supervisor to resolve.

Actually, I have forgotten to pay my bill and got it disconnected (this was awhile back now) and I called, paid it by credit card and there was NO reconnect fee charged...

I have to admit Verizon handled that very nicely for me when they could have justifiably acted otherwise...

chances are you spoke to someone in care, ask to be xferred to receivables (payment) department, they are the people who call you when you're in jeopardy of being cut off. If you can prove with a statement that it cashed out of your bank on a certain day, they have a fax number you can fax that into, that should alleviate any reinstatement fees, otherwise they are legit. NOW if you haven't been suspended for non-payment before and you're lucky enough to get a nice rep, or speak to a supervisor you can usually get it waived as a one-time courtesy. you should try that. and actually I'm surprised verizon only charges 15.00 reinstatement fees, they're usually higher than us in fees...(us=attws) we charge 25.00 reinstatement fees.

Wow.

$25?

Jeez....

As soon as payment is received and deposited your account is credited. If you pay online electronically, the account is even considered paid before the check clears. Also, unless it was your first month as a VZW user, you tend to have a grace period before Financial Services will interrupt you. You will get a very quick suspension if you pay your first bill late (this is true with most national carriers) because late or non-payment on a first bill has a high correlation with fradulent accounts.

I too have had a few problems with Verizon's billing. My problem is it takes me nearly a week or two after my billing cycle has ended to receive my paper bill and I have to immediately turn around and mail a check in order to avoid a late payment. I like to sit down and write all my bills once a week. Usually my payment only shows up on my account day or two before the due date. Makes me nervous.

When I called and asked someone at Verizon about it (it happens quite often) I was told that I could always pay my bill online or over the phone. This answer frustrated me because their online bill pay was very spotty for the past few months and I shouldn't HAVE to pay my bill online or over the phone. My bill should arrive in a timely manner t...

I can see how that would frustrate you. This often happens to me too. I check online to see what my balance is but I like to recieve the paper billing as well.

I think VZW is suppose to have a policy that requires them to get your paper bill to you no later than 10 days after your bill cycles. But I have yet to see this implemented?

Maybe someone else would know more about that?

Im sure there is a time frame policy to have the bill printed and mailed, but you can't really have a policy guaranteeing when the bill gets to you. If the US postal service decides to take your bill on a 2 week whilwind trip around the country, it isnt really the sender's fault.

All bills should be received 6-8 days after your bill cycle date. All bills are sent out automatically, if you don't receive them in 6-8 days then it would be postal issue.

I have no sympathy. You mailed a check the very day it was due. Since your posting on this site I assume your familiar with the internet. There is no reason for the payment being late since you could have logged onto www.verizonwireless.com and paid instantly with a check, debit card or credit card.
If this doesn't suite you, you could have dialed #MIN from you cellular phone airtime free and paid instantly with check, debit card or credit card.
If you don't like this option, you could have called *611 airtime free and paid via a customer service rep and again have your payment applied instantly.
Not one of these options would have cost you single cent.
You chose to mail a payment the day it is due, go figure 😕

anytime there is a pasy due on the accnt there is a possibility of interruption in service. Now that being said normally you don't see a cancelled account for non payment unless there are like 3 payments due on the account.

And if a customer has a history of past due balances on their account, they're more prone to an earlier cut off on service.

Factor in 3-5 days for the postal service to send the check and then factor the processing time it takes to process a check. What is processing time composed of? Well, your check wasn't the only one received that day (I am 100% of this), and since it's a check it takes longer to post primarily because of the ease of fraudelance in using one, and we also want to make sure the funds clear before posting a $25 no funds fee to your account.
