Cingular Merger soon?

I work for Cellular One and I must say there is a lot of interesting things happening around the company that makes me and my fellow employees wonder if a Cingular buy out is in our future. The most recent of the weird occurred this past week, when a Cingular customer came into our store. This customer lives in a market that is not a Cingular market, it is a Cellular One market. He wanted to get a local number for this area. He was told by Cingular Customer Service that he did not need to cancel his account to get a local number because Cingular is going to buy Cellular One at the beginning of the year. Our new holiday promotion started Friday and the "tag line" is "The latest phones on an even stronger network." There are also internal "thi...

Can't happen. Cingular has too much of the market already. The FCC and the US govt have put a stop to cingular buying out large companies so a monpoly does notcome into effect.

BS!!!! There are 3 other large carries so a monopoly can never happen. They would have to buy verizon tmobile and/or sprint. A monopoly means no competition along with strong arming customers. Microsoft is a monopoly yet they still exist in whole? Why cuz they keep their prices reasonable.

It might happen but most importantly is how much Cingular owns in the markets that Cell 1 owns with regarding assets including spectrum, towers, and customers. If it is bellow, a certain level then it might be allowed but I have not heard any chatter of Cingular buying another smaller operator such as you.

What does Cell 1 provide to Cingular?

Cell One has a roaming agreement in place currently with Cingular so we can use their towers and they can use ours. Which is why we can offer a nation wide calling plan, otherwise we would never be able to offer that. Now I do know that Cingular does operate in some of the same markets as we do, but not all, such as the market I work in where there is no Cingular at all. As far as the monopoly goes, that can't be true. Cingular may own the largest spectrum of GSM in the country, however with companies such as Verizon, Sprint, T-mobile, etc. Cingular could not be considered a monopoly, as they would then have to be the only wireless company in the country.

Well when mergers are being considered by the FCC and DOJ, which might consist of divestitures and that happened between Cingular and ATTWS has to deal with each market with regarding spectrum, subscribers and towers. If it were over the threshold then they would put divestitures in place, and if there are not, then obviously there will not be. They would be a monopoly in the individual markets, which the regulators will not want. Hence the divestures.

I work for cingular and I haven't heard any talk about merging with cell one. I have Cell one and love my coverage and the support that I get. But Cell One would givve cingular access to MT and Alska which we currently do not offer.

Where do people get these wonderful "sources"? I haven't heard of any buyout yet. I hope that we don't sell our souls because I will be back to Square One as I left Cingular to work for Dobson Cellular/Cellular One 2 years ago.

IF Cingular bought out CellONE, I'd switch to T-Mobile.

True story.

This doesn't mean the entire company. & why would some Cingular rep know before we would? Estupido...

I know that marketing for CellularONE has never been as big of a deal as it is now. Millions of dollars are going towards out advertising campaigns & that would seem silly if in a month, they're being bought out.

There have been big discussions on remodeling our kiosks & plans for next year in various quarters.

Also, "an even stronger network?" Cingular buying out CellularONE would not improve our network. We already roam off of them outside of our local markets & even inside our local markets if the coverage isn't there. Our footprints are pretty much identical.

Believe me... When things go down, there are usually obv...

It'd make more sense if T-Mobile had that notion. And I co-sign with you on the mils of chippers we spent on marketing and promotion. Wouldn't make any sense at all for us to be promo'g ourselves knowin' we'd get bought out. I wish I could find those so-called "sources" and stomp they a** out until I get s**t all over my boots!!

😲

Wow, Doc, Calm....Anywho, The reason I posted this is because I'm in the PA9/WV2,3 market and Cingular is a lost soul in the phone world here. It's just been odd lately having multiple (15+) Cingular customers coming into my store asking me about this when Cingular told them it was going to happen. I know alot of our employees/corp staff are on here and was hoping to see an "off the island" comment on it. But it's all good in my hood... 😎
