AIM?

Mas

I'm currently using Cellular One out of northern Michigan (49841) and I would like to receive instant messages from AIM.

When trying to confirm my mobile number with AOL, I never receive their text message which is strange to say the least!

I use a Nokia 6800, which I should be able to sign onto AIM with but the option is not there.

Is this not possible with CellOne, and if so, why? 😕

Cellular One does not currently have an agreement with AOL to allow AIM to work. If you get a blackberry you can use AIM, as there is a free program that will allow you to IM people. There is also a program for the Treo if you get an unlocked one and choose to use it with the cellone network

Another option is Trillian and it's awesome plugins... http://www.ceruleanstudios.com/

With Trillian, you can access most instant messaging protocols (Yahoo!, AIM, MSN, ICQ, IRC, etc.) and then with an optional plugin you can access all of these from ANY mobile device! I've been using this plugin for about a year and it works great. For more information, check it out here: http://www.ceruleanstudios.com/downloads/deta il.php?item=250

If your phone has the "IM" application on it you can get on AIM, MSN and Yahoo. Simply go to www.yamigo.com and sign up, fill in the information that it asks for, then put the right information into your phone. I must warn you ahead of time that the data charges probably aren't worth it.

Oh, and when it says "IM requires setup". The GPRS APN is "cellular1wap". No need for username and password.

Some of the phones have the option, but until recently, CellONE did not offer that ability. We now do, but only on these phones.

Unfortunately the Nokia 6800 does not support aim. There are very few phones out there that are aim compatible. I have a Nokia 6061 and it's aim compatible. But then you have to order the service which is only $2.99. Or you can always go online and go to aol's website to see if you can access your IM. Yahoo is known for being able to do this on their mobile website. Hope this helps.

AOL/AIM also supports SMS Instant Messaging... Not quite the same experience, but it certainly gets the job done and can be used on any phone capable of SMS. Read more: http://mobile1.aol.com/
