OK, I happen to like the little Kyocera SoHo that I got at USC ( only place with service for me ). Unfortunately, it shuts itself off at random and I miss calls. It's a ONE HOUR total drive time to and from the USC store. I have been there 3 times now for this phone. Today, they gave me a new SoHo and, you guessed it, it shut off twice within 4 hours! I now have to drive back tomorrow ( my 4th trip ) and they will no doubt offer a replacement with the same phone.

I say no way. I want a phone of my choice at no extra cost. I want the Motorola V710 at no extra cost in fact. How about that?

Anyone think'll they'll do this? Anyone have similar experiences with USC? As I see it, this could well be a ploy to get me to purchase a more expen...

U gonna need that luck... if u under your 30 days u can pay extra and get v710 if you out of 30 days u stuck with SoHo for next two years unless u wanna spend 399.99 and get 710 Buy out Right.

USCC has bullet proof coverage in rural areas that's the only thing I like about the company

So in other words, USC only needs to replace the SoHo every week or so and they are in the clear?

When I was in the store yesterday, there were 6 people there. All of them were returning defective phones. In fact, upon every visit to the store, that's what I see people doing. Now, I am doing it. It's beginning to seem like a scam to me. Oh sure, I get the SoHo for $39.95 with a $30 rebate but, the catch is that I will have to return it every week. I am contacting the attorney general as this seems to be a plan to force me to buy another more expensive phone. 3 phones in 3 weeks? I've never encountered or seen such an influx of defective products! I miss important calls because my phone shuts off? Yet, I must pay for this service and not...

you are correct! all wireless providers tell the companies that make the phones to make them faulty so companies like uscellular can keep handing out free ones to customers. i bet the company was thinking that they can screw over all of these people by giving them a phone for free after rebate that doesn't work and then they will want to purchase a phone for $400 when they are pissed off. makes complete sense to me

Then why is it that when I go to the store I see them telling everyone that the V710 is the best? The customers I see there ( like me now ) are all returning faulty products. My main point is that my time is money too. Spending a total ( after today ) of 4 hours on the road to keep returning the same product puts me in the negative column financially. Why should I have to suffer losses financially? If that is OK with you then that is your choice. I intened to be reimbursed.

Like requesting a V710 in return? Look, I figure I travelled an extra 240 miles to go back and forth to this store. I get 15 mpg ( I use a truck and need it ). That's about $45 in gas alone not to mention the time I took off from work. I figure I have lost about $150 just in time and travel. It's this cost that has me thinking I am not being unreasonable. It's simple business actually.

But, I understand that you and others may think I am being unrealistic. That's cool. I just detest the double standard. Fair is fair and when I go there today I will find out if they see that is the case.

What on earth are you talking about? My phone was indeed discovered to be DOA and the manager agreed with me on this and did what I asked of him. I was polite and only presented my case.

They said yes and agreed with me. Now what do you say?

Scam my buttocks.

The "I purchased a Geo Metro which was a lemon, now you owe me a cadillac" charge will not hold a lot of ground. You may consider a moto 262 which is close to the soho & the difference in retail price would provide a little reimbursement for travel expenses you have. I would be nice though and contact customer service. You will get ten times further w/ nice request to correct your problem than a demand or threat. That company would rather you have a working phone you can use and pay your bill every month rather than get you to purchase a new high end phone.

It is not USCC's fault that you don't live next door, nor is it their fault that you drive a truck, NOR is it their fault that gas is so darn expensive nowadays. I live 20 minutes from a grocery store, does that mean they should reimburse me for my drive there? 🙄

yes, you should get taken care of. However, to demand a phone that costs more than twice as much for "gas money" is beyond ridiculous

there are only two reasons people usually come in to the store, to pay their bill or to have a broken phone fixed. any company you go to you will have issues with your phone one time or another. you cant single out us cellular. we are not the ones to manufacture the phones. it would be better for us if they didn't break.

Well, depending on where your at ( I know if you came into my store) we should be able to work with you. However I know noone is going to let you upgrade for free. I would simply call cs @ 888-944-9400 and see what can be done. If you truly had this swapped out 3 times already they should be willing to work with you on it. I would not expect anything more than being able to pay the difference in phone cost though. sorry to tell ya but teh other option is going to be sending it in. Unless you want to try a new battery becasue that seems to be the only commmon factor if they are swapping phone only.

I suspected this. I mean, I am willing to work with them on this. I am not unreasonable. However, my time and travel is money just like everyone elses. I should be compensated. I had to take the time to take an hour off each time. Gas expenses. You know.

What really concerns me is that the majority of customers in the store are there to return defective phones. This seems to be the norm from what I can ascertain. There is something so not right about that. It concerns me and makes me feel like I've made a BIG mistake.

Yours is a bad situation and whoever you deal with should realize that. We like to pride ourselves on customer service. If it makes a difference there is very little markup on phones. so whether you buy the $400 phone or get the free one when you sign up your maintiaining your service through us is where the money is made. So obviously we want to keep you as a customer. You didnt make a mistake teh soho is a decent phone. Yes teh 710 is the best (currently) but I would simply explain to whoever you deal with that this will be your 4th phone and you have to drive an hour to get it replaced everytime. Possibly request to speak with a manager. What state are you in? Maybe we can work something out.

My wife has the SOHO and she has never had a problem with it. I agree its a cheap phone, but how can you expect to get a free V710? You should have bought the 710 in the first place. Let me guess, you did not want to pay the extra cash for a better phone. Get a life!

EX-USCC EMPLOYEE

Oct 20, 2005, 6:45 PM
No he probably did get his way....I know, from the standpoint of a past retention associate, if he went in and made a hassle in the store, they did what they could to make him happy...plus USCC is going to make more money by keeping him happy than letting him cancel. The previous Radio Shack associate is a jerk. I had to deal with many authorized agents and they were out for the commission. I recommend using an ACTUAL USCC office. If you don't know the closest one to you, call 888-944-9400. Oh, and if you threaten to cancel service...Customer Relations is there to do pretty much whatever it takes to keep you as a customer.

I don't know about USC, because we, at RadioShack, have Verizon. Also, yes, we sales associates would outright LIE to you to make a sale, or do some not-so-legal things. Good times, good times... Just remember though, you HAVE to come to RadioShack one way or another. Weather its for a Cell Phone, or a resistor. Just remember, theres always a RadioShack within 5 minutes of where you live and work! 😈 😈 😈

I also invite her to catch SARS too. Just have a canadian caugh on her. 😈

I for one found USC more than willing to make me happy. No nasty exchanges occurred ( unlike here ), everyone was cordial, polite and we got along great.

It seems there are a lot of consumers that don't know how to complain politely and allow companies to show they are more than happy to help. This has always been my experience. Humor works well I have founds.

Thanks to you TechGuy01. I appreciate your assistance. Thanks to USC too. It was a good experience all around. The way things should be.
